In the absence of John Henry Brown, president of the school board, Dr. McBride, vice president of the board, spoke briefly, voicing his appreciation for being invited to attend the function and stating that.,be was pleased to be able to attend as a representative of the local board of education. High School Principal Shannon made brief remarks of commenda- tion to the junior class for a job well donejl and also expressed Pleasure upon being afforded the opportunity to attend the banauet. Selection of the queer was made in the traditional man- ner, with nominations from the general assembly of senior boys, followed by voting on candidates. Male members of the junior class met Thursday at 9 A. M. and nominated a slate of candidates for attendants, from which six junior girls were elected to serve as the queen's attendants at the prom. Attendants chosen were: Cheryl Wardlow, Linda Pieffer, Beverly Gray, Carol Williams, Judy Blank- enship and Mary Ann McCarty, They will attend the queen and DH1'iiCiDHte in ceremonies during the prom. Miss Reed was honored for her efforts in preparing the program an: other secretarial work, Mrs. Head for her assistance in floral arrangements and for the flowers for the ladies and Burch for his contributions to the group and especially for financing a trip for a mem' ber to the state convention. FFA Banquet Held Friday Numerous Awards Are Presented at Fefe Approximately 200 Hillsboro FFA Chapter members, parents and guests attended the annual banquet, held inthe Washington School multi-purpose room Friday night, despite inclement weather and hazardous road conditions. The meeting following the ban- quet, conducted by chapter officers and members in accordance with parliamentary procedure form, inv eluded the presentation of founda- tion and chapter awards, honoring of special guests, introduction of members and parents present, pre- sentation of past and present chap- ter queens, entertainment in the form of a movie entitled Star Farmers of America, and music by the chapter band. The banquet was officially open-J ed with introductory remarks by Douglas McCann, chapter presi- dent. Invocation was given by John Graff, chapter chaplain, followed by dinner music by the FFA band. FFA Chapters ' Hold Livestock Judging Meet l The five FFA chapters in High-, land County participated in a coun-f ty-wide livestock judging meet! held Wednesday afternoon on two county farms, with Mowrystown team scoring high for the county- with 5611 points. Hillsboro and Lynchburg teams tied for second lace with 5215 charge new president of the Hillsboro FFA Chapter, presided at the night banquet. Chapter Picks Officersp McCann, President The Hillsboro Future Farmers o America Chapter met Thursdal night at the high school building and elected officers for the com ing year. New officers will takf office on March 1.
