Athletics I QJERRY PORDE, right, and GAYLE PEDLRSON, lett, together with CHARLOTTE HEM- PEL, who was not present when 'the picture was taken, led our pep team during the 1944 and '45 seasons, The girls spent much time practicing and added many new and interesting twirls and acrobatic stunts to their regular routine, Sports in Hillsboro High School during I944 and I9-45 were largely limited to basketball. In the absence ot football, this sport was started earlier this year. With a still comparatively inexperienced outfit, the Burros showed some improvement over he former year and with the able assistance of Coach Wm, Falconer, the Burros showed continued improvement with each game. By winning two games from North- wood, Hillsboro pulled itselt out ot the cellar position in the conference, and by two points missed tying Hatton tor fourth place, Led by Co-captains Iverson and Preston, those bearing the brunt ot the Burros' attack this year were Balkan, Miller, Kelly, Overboe, Anderson, Lemm, Porter, Wentworth, and Krengel.
