0 We can't boast of a Washington, Einstein, or Kennedy in the class of '62, but Rome was not built in a day. On a warm, sunny August morning in 1950, nineteen little girls and boys started their formal education at Hillsboro School. Those entering were Patricia Berry, Linda Kay Bowen, Marthie Capps, Thomas Leon Clem- ents, John Owen Donham, Jon Merrill Downs, Jimmy Fay, Harry Lee Freeman, Benita Hesler, Jerry Holycross, Judith Ann Ingersoll, Karen Jahnke, Mikel Lewman, Sharon Lee Newman, Thomas Wayne Nickle, Joeie Ray Nine, Jo Ellen Parker, Ronald Lee Voorhees, and Sarah Lou Webster. We were fortunate enough to have had Miss Betty Bailey start us on the road of our education. Throughout the next five years, we had Miss Bernice Hyatt, Mr. Everett Clore, Mr. William Howard, and Mr. Lincoln Lankford as our instructors. During our Junior High years, we had Miss Thelma Ebel as our class sponsor. Within the first eight years of school, we were very pleased to have gained Tommilou Flanigon, Ron- ald Jack Wendall, Richard Dennis McManomy, and Mitchell Bray, and to have had them continue on the road of education with us. ln the autumn of 1958, we entered Hillsboro High School as green Freshmen. James Carlton Kingery and Robert Congleton were new members of our class. In October, 1958, we were sorry to lose Robert Congleton, but we were very pleased to gain Raymond Dale Smith. Mr. Edwin Hoffhaus was our class sponsor. Our class officers were, President, Tom Clements, Vice-President, Sarah Webster, Secretary-Treasurer, Tommilou Flan- igon, and Rep., Jo Ellen Parker. As Sophornores we received our columbian blue class sweaters, which we wore proudly. The officers were: President, Sarah Webster, Vice-President, Ronald Voorhees, Secretary-Treasurer, Jo Ellen Parker, and Rep., Tommilou Flanigon. Our sponsor was Mr. Edwin Hoffhaus. We were very sorry to lose James Kingery and Larry Francis Booe. During our Junior year, we received our class rings, which we had looked forward to for many years. We exceeded our goal in our magazine sales, and we were entertained by the Senior class at the annual Junior-Sen- ior Picnic at Turkey Run State Park. Mrs. Vivian Bryant, our sponsor, helped us present our play, The Custers' Last Stand. We were pleased to have Patricia Philpott join us. The class officers were : President, John Don- ham, Vice-President, Ronald Voorhees, Secretary-Treasurer, Sarah Webster, Rep., Patricia Philpott, and Student Council Rep., Tommilou Flanigon. Our Junior year was climaxed by the much awaited Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom held in the Memorial Union at Purdue University. We'll never forget our treacherous journey home through the terrible April snow storm. In the autumn of 1961, Patricia Berry, Mitchell Bray, Thomas Leon Clements, John Owen Donham, Jerry Holycross, Karen Jahnke, Tommilou Flanigon, Richard Dennis McManomy, Thomas Wayne Nickle, Sharon Lee Newman, Joeie Ray Nine, Jo Ellen Parker, Patricia Philpott, Ronald Lee Vorhees, Sarah Lou Webster, Raymond Dale Smith, Ronald Jack Wendall, and Jon Merrill Downs finally reached their long awaited goal - SENIORS! l We elected as our officers, President, John Donham, Vice-President, Tom Nickle, Secretary, Sarah Webster, Treasurer, Ray Smith, Rep., Tom Clements, and Student Council Rep. , Ron Voorhees. We started off our Sen- ior year by entertaining the Junior class at the annual Junior-Senior Picnic at Turkey Run State Park. Our first project was the presentation of Constable Jerry from Fulton's Ferry. Then came our annual, the Hiltosco - ad sales, editing, and annual sales. The Junior and Senior classes sponsored a Turkey Supper and made a large profit to go towards the eight-day Junior-Senior trip to Washington, D. C . , and New York City. We were very well represented in basketball, having eight Senior boys on the team and three Senior Varsity cheerleaders cheer ing our great team on to many victories. There were eight members of the high school band that played in their last contest and band festival. Choral Festival was also a big event to seven Senior girls, because to all it was their last and to three it meant Festival accompanists. But the biggest event to everyone was our gradua- tion - Baccalaureate and Commencement. We were pleased to welcome Ryland Wrede to our class in January, 1962. What can be seen in the futures of nineteen Seniors who are leaving Hillsboro High School and entering the vast and complex school of life? Power! Famel Fortunel?! Perhaps - It's possible - I wonder -
