611155 History Twelve years ago in the fall of 1949, which then seemed to be an eternity, but today is a reality, fourteen boys and girls walked into Hillsboro School. They were: Archie Nine, Linda Bever, Jan Hesser, Bob Congleton, Sue Webster, Walter Benefield, Randy Ludlow, Dale Howard, Carolyn Bever, Judy Stephens, Harry Freeman, Larry Booe, Barbara Schenck, and Stanley Howard. We were fortunate enough to have Miss Betty Bailey in this big year which was to be just the beginning of our education and the open of a new world for us. Miss Bernice Hyatt, Mr. Max Livengood, and Mr. Lincoln Lankford had the pleasure of putting up with us for the next five years. As we entered Junior High School, we were wondering if we were ever going to gain the title of Seniors. In Junior High, we had Miss Thelma Ebel for our class sponsor. During these past eight years, we lost and gained classmates. As Carolynn Stewart, Jan Hesser, Mike Funk, Archie Nine, Walter Benefield, Dale Howard, Sue Webster, Sherry Norris, Donald Fortner, Ronald Fortner, Randy Ludlow, Robert Head, Carolyn Bever, Bobbie Parker, and Vernon Gooding entered the Freshman Class, we knew that we .were getting closer to our goal. Our class officers werez. President, Jan Hesser, Vice-President, Ronald Fortner, Secretary- Treasurer, Donald Fortner, Reporter, Mike Funk, and we elected Mr. Merrill Bush as our sponsor. Later that year, we were sorry to lose Dale Howard and Bobbie Parker, but the gain of Jack French made up the loss. During our Sophomore year, we ordered and received our bright, royal blue class sweaters. We elected: President, Walter Benefield, Vice-President, Mike Funk, Secretary-Treasurer, Sue Webster, Reporter, Jan Hesser, and Mr. Edwin Hoffhaus as our class sponsor. As we entered our Junior year, we were thrilled with the prospects of the play and various other activities that came with high school, but most of all, the fact that we had about reached our goal. We presented our-play, Mrs. Gibbon's Boys, with the help of our sponsor, Mrs. Vivian Bryant. The receiving of our class rings, magazine sales, basketball and baseball were just a few of the highlights, but the biggest of all was the Junior and Senior Trip to New York and Washington, D. C. Our class officers for that year were: President, Jan Hesser, Vice-President, Sue Webster, Secretary, Carolyn Bever, Treasurer, Walter Benefield, Reporter, Jack French, Student Council, Mike Funk. Once again in the fall of 1960, twelve Seniors walked into Hillsboro High School for the last time. Those entering were: Mike Funk, Carolyn Bever, Sue Webster, Carolynn Stewart, Vernon Gooding, Randy Ludlow, Jan Hesser, Robert Head, Walter Benefield, Jack French, Gerald Norman, and Archie Nine. We had at last reached our goal, SENIORSI With the help of Mrs. Estaline Belles, we presented our play, Alias the Butler, which we all enjoyed and had a lot of fun preparing for. Our class officers were: President, Jan Hesser, Vice-President, Sue Webster, Secretary, Carolyn Bever, Treasurer, Caro- lynn Stewart, Reporter, Gerald Norman, Student Council, Jack French and Mike Funk. Our Senior pictures, basketball, the Junior and Senior Prom at Purdue University, and other activities added to our Senior excitement. As we leave, we look forward to going out into the world, but, we will always remember the-good times we have had at Dear Hillsboro High. CLASS COLORS: Royal Blue and Red CLASS FLOWER: Red Rose CLASS MOTTO: Every Person is the Architect of his own Future.
