CLASS HISTORY X. ln the early fall of 1947, thirteen frightened little boys and girls started on their long road of education. Those starting were: Ruth Eaton, Joyce Rusk, Barbara Linck, Annette Donham, Janette Donham, Beverly Adams, Kenneth Jeffries, Richard Myers, Donald Furr, Kenneth Palmer, Carol Ridge, Judy Houser, and Janice Furr. Our first year was spent under the gentle and guiding hands of Miss Betty Baily. In our next five years of grade school, we gained much by welcoming new members, but we were sorry to lose old classmates. During these years we had many enriching and enjoyable ex- periences with Miss Hyatt, Mr. Levengood, and Mr. King, our teachers. When the bell rang in 1953, twelve ambitious students mounted the stairs to their Junior High days. Our sponsors selected for these two years were Miss Ebel and Mr. Linn. Mrs. Belles high- lighted our eighth grade history class by taking us to the Lew Wallace Study and Lane Place. Many thanks go to Mr. Massey, our sponsor, for the guidance he gave us through our first year of high school. The members of the class at the start of our Freshman year were: Jim Howard, Annette Donham, Janette Donham, Joyce Rusk, Kenneth Jeffries, Doris Harper, Bill Downs, Earleen Snyder, and Norman Robertson. We selected the following as our class officers: President - Kenneth Jeffries, Vice President - Doris Harper, Secretary-Treasurer - Joyce Rusk, Reporter - Janette Donham, Sutdent Council - Annette Donham, Our Sophomore year was filled with the excitement of receiving our class sweaters and order- ing our class rings. The class officers for this year were: President - Sandra Smith, Vice Presi- dent - Bill Downs, Secretary-Treasurer - Janette Donham, Reporter - Kenneth Jeffries. Our sponsor was Mr. Simpers. The presenting of the Junior Play, Look-Out Lizzie, opened a year of exciting events. We worked hard on our various money-making projects, and accomplished our goal when we started on the class trip to Washington D. C. and New York City, April 26, 1958. The officers elected for this year were: President - Amold Fortner, Vice President - Kenneth Jeffries, Secretary- Treasurer - Joyce Rusk, Student Council - Annette Donham, Reporter - Bill Downs. A big thank you goes to our sponsors, Mr. Simpers and Mr. Cartel, who helped us faithfully in many ways. With muchjoy and excitement we returned to Hillsboro High August 29, 1958, for the last year of our secondary education. We now had attained the coveted title of Seniors. This year we chose as our class officers: President - Kenneth Jeffries, Vice President - Terry French, Secretary - Joyce Rusk, Treasurer - Annette Donham, Reporter - Earleen Snyder, Student Comm- cil - Bill Downs. Mrs. Belles was chosen as our sponsor. We have now reached the threshold of the future. Our background is filled with good times, close friends, and a fine education gained from the twelve wonderful years spent at Hillsboro High. As we leave we say thank you to our parents, our community, and our school for the many opportunities we have shared together. CLASS COLORS: Charcoal and Red CLASS FLOWER: Red carnation CLASS MOTTO: The word AMERICAN ends with I CAN.
