After they were welcomed by Miss Betty and had gotten over the awe of at last being in this big building, they began learning their ABC's. During the next eight years many things were learned, such as, the difference between right and wrong. There were many ggudemgg added to the class. Some of these students were Benny Haase, Donald Furr, Sidney Furr, Jane Willett, Donald Walker, Zelma Day Beverly Fun-,Louise Eaton, Betty Gibison, Martha Livingston, Gene Thomas, Bobby Ratcliff, George Hinote, Alice Freeman, Edmon Murray, Deloris Kolaiser, Richard Bowen, Joe Ellis, Charles Knee, Kathryn Beber, and Jeannette Spivey. Several of the originial twenty-six first graders and the preceding names were subtracted from the class. In October, 1950, we were saddened by the death of one of our classmates Gene Thomas, brother of Robert Thomas. An event which will always be in our memories was the day we, as Freshmen, were initiated. After everyone had the lipstick wiped off and bruises healed. We electad Chl' officers. Virginia Eubank was appointed president, Eleanor Brown, vice -president, Martha Livingston, secretary-treasurer, Bob Ratcliff, reporter, and Mrs. Shade, spon- sor. Taking our respective seats as Sophomores was an important step for us. At last, we were across the big aisle and could look at the Freshmen with sympathy. We received our class sweaters, which were worn practically every day that year. Class officers that year were president, Virginia Eubank, vice-president, Deloris Bever, secretary, Eleanor Brown, teasurer, Joe Ellis, reporter, Bob Ratcliff, and sponsor, Mr. Bogle. Our Junior year was filled with important occasions. Two of the most important occasions were the times when we received our class rings and presented the Junior Play, The Boarding House Reach. Election of class officers was held and it was de- cided Joe Ellis would be president, Eleanor Brown, vice-president, Virginia Eubank, secretary, Deloris Bever, treasurer, Eleanor Brown, reporter, Martha Livingston, student council member, and Miss Sutherlin as sponsor. At the end of the year the -Tllhibrl and Seniors went on a very enjoyable trip to Niagara Falls, Canada, and Detroit. At last we, the fifteen members of the Class of '56 , entered our final and most im- portant year of our twelve years of schooling. We selected Mrs. Belles and Mr. Delon as sponsors. Loran Templeton was elected to preside as president, Deloris Bever, vices- president, Martha Livingston, secretary, Virginia Eubank, treasurer, Eleanor Brown, reporter, and Jeannette Spivey, student council member. We were busy that year with the Senior Play, The Able Miss Cain . the Junior and Senior trip to Washington,D.C. and New York, and the usual senior activities. Soon we, the graduating class, will each go our separate ways into this world. May we each retain some of the fundamentals which we have learned in our twelve years of schooling at I-1.1-LS. and consider those years as twelve of the most enjoyable of our lives. Old Fort Niagara Niagara Falls ff? M, r, ,, ,aff Spanish Aero Car Rainbow Bridge Junior and The Junior and Senior Trip to Niagara Falls and Canada was one of the most enjoyable events of the 1954-55 school year. At a very early hour on May 7, fourteen Juniors and eleven Seniors and our sponsors, Mrs. Belles, Miss Southerlin, Mr. Delon, the principal, and Mr. Lankford, a grade teacher, boarded the bus. Indiana and the northwestern part of Ohio were crossed. Beautiful Lake Erie was seen. In the evening we arrived in Cleveland and checked in- to the Hotel Olmstead. We had the evening free for our own entertainment. On the second day, we left Cleveland and fol- lowed Lake Erie to Erie, Pennsylvania, where we enjoyed a fish dinner by the lake. Then we left for Buffalo, New York, where we went thr- ough the industrial section of the city, and Niagara, New York, where we had our first view of Niagara Falls. We registered at the Hotel Niagara. In the evening we attended the Sal- vation Army Church. Then the group traveled tdCa.nada, where we saw the beautiful display of rainbow-colored lights on the Falls, and many souvenior shops were visited. Each time we entered Canada or returned to the United States, we were required to go through the cus- tom office. nk' Niagara Falls, New York Whirlpool Rapids American Falls Senior Trip Monday morning we toured Old Fort Niagara, which has flown the Ilags of three nations: France, England, and the United States. Again we entered Canada to view Niagara Falls. This time, by means of an elevator, we were taken to the base of the Falls. Then we walked down the boardwalk and saw the Niagara Rapids. Next we rode the cable car across the Niagara River and whirlpools. Then the group traveled to the Welland Canal, which connects Lake Eriq and Lake Ontario. Then we journeyed on to Toronto, Canada and checked into Hotel Ford. The evening was free for our own entertainment. The next morning we toured Casa Loma, a French Castle, the Parliment Buildings of On- tario, and the Royal Ontario Museum. In the afternoon we left Toronto for Detroit, Michigag. We toured the Kellogg Plant at London. After arriving in Detroit, we checked into the Hotel Tuller. The evening was free. On Thursday morning the River Rouge Ford Plant was toured. Here the class saw the assembling of a new Ford from the raw material to the finished pro- duct. The Edison Museum and Greenfield Vil- lage were visited, and we had lunch at the Wil- low Run Airport. After a most enjoyable trip, we arrived in Hillsboro Thursday evening, a well-traveled and happy group. Welland Canal Illuminated American Falls Maid of the Mist lburnedl Martha Livingston f. Horseshoe Falls Old Fort Niagara l 9 56 l 966 Ten Years Hence In this day and age, there would not be any way to go to see my past class members except by jet plane. I chartered a jet for my own use. 'I'hen I could take as much time as I wanted. My first surprise was that of meeting Jack Parker as the pilot of my plane. He told me that Fords just weren't fast enough for him. Our first stopping place was Hollywood, California, where Igmet two of my classmates. One was Martha Livingston, the greatest clothes designer in Hollywood. She has been presented seventy-six Oscars. She took me to see Loran Templeton who has taken over the once popular Eddie Fisher show. He had just finished making a recording. Our next stop was Denver, Colorado, where I decided to eat my lunch. I found a beauti- ful restaurant and thought it would be a good place to eat. As I walked in the door, I saw Robert Thomas sitting at the cash register. He said that he had owned the restaurant for five years. As I was eating my lunch, Jane Willett, now an airline stewardess for Pan- American came in. She said she had just arrived from New York City. We talked for a while, but I knew that I had to hurry on. Jack was waiting for me at the airport and we were Chicago bound. At Chicago's Midway Airport I saw the great Tom Helmick, the greatest basketball player in the world. He said that he had just completed a tour of the world and was going home to his family in Tennessee. As Chicago was just a stopover for me, I got back into the jet and Jack pointed it straight toward Purdue University. When we arrived, I went to the office of the Presi- dent of Purdue to see Virginia Eubank QEmerickQ who has been his secretary for six years As it was time for her to finish work for the day, she took me to her new home and I met her family. Like many of us, she married her old high school sweetheart. She invited me to stay at her home for the night. The next morning I bid farewell and went back to the airport. This time, Jack said we would head for Niagara Falls. Here we found Betty Gibison, whe was the owner of Hotel Niagara. She said she had made the rooms more comfortable than they were when the juniors and seniors were there in 1955. She told me also that she had married the bus driver who took us over into Canada that first night we were there in 1955. We left there and arrived in Washington, D. C, , in time for lunch. After lunch I went directly to the White House where I was lucky enought to talk to Margaret Croft, the pri- vate secretary to the President of the United States. As I left her office I saw Deloris Bever coming out of the President's office. She said she had just finished showing him the large diamond she found on her safari in Africa. She said it was the largest ever found. Deloris went with me to the airport and I once again boarded Jack's jet. Soon we arrived in the State of Virginia. There, I met George Croft at the airport. He said that he owns a large plantation. He took me to a town close by and, as we walked down the street, I saw Bob Ratcliff sitting on the front porch of his home in a rocking chair. He was rocking his five children to sleep. He told us that he worked in a pastry shop, putting holes in doughnuts. I wanted to spend the rest of the day in New York so I went back to the jet and was on my way. I reached New York in plenty of time to see Marsha Hutchins. She is the star model for Gimble's Department Store. She told us that her weekly salary was nine hundred dollars. Marsha took me to see Jeannette Spivey, who is married to the mayor of New York City. Even with all her minks and jewels, she was still as gay and friendly as always If you are wondering what I have done since graduating, I live in New York City, run my own beauty shop, and am happily married to my sweetheart of high school days. Our carefree days are over, but the glow of old friendships still remains. Eleanor Ann Br own . X1 X fag sf f 'r Autographs Ri?
