The Toppers had sole possession of first place in Mid-State Conference action after defeating pre- viously unbeaten Pana. Hillsboro and Greenville were the Mid-State Conference Co-Champs this year with records of 4-I, but the Coments were awarded the playoff spot because of their win over the Toppers. The Homecoming game was a crucial victory for the Toppers. Hugh Satterlee's one-yard touchdown run and Dieter Randemacher's extra point kick clinched the win against the Shelbyville Rams by a score of 7- 6. Hillsboro had several players named to the all-conference team for the l982 season. Toppers placed on the first string defense squad were Todd Lohman, Guard. Ron Hopwood, Linebacker. and JC Severs, Back. Hugh Satterlee was named to the second string team at the Defensive End position and Artie Lynch received an honorable mention as Defensive Back. On offense, the sole first stringer was John Mondin at the Tackle position. On the second string team for offense were Jim Currie, Center. Ron Hopwood, Guard. and Dieter Rademacher as Runningback and Kicker. The Toppers have an excellent opportunity for the playoffs next year with I5 varsity letter winners returning to the team.
