On a bright, sunshiny day in September, 1949 Csome 200 bewildered freshmenl we entered Elgin High School to become the members of the Class of '52. Our class quickly revealed its leadership under the guidance of our class sponsor, Miss Martha Iones. We were one of the first classes to become organized during our freshman year, electing as our officers: Pat Weeks, president: Wallace Gifford, vice-president: Nancy Miller, secretary: and Henry Pear- sall, treasurer. Amidst a typical autumn theme of corn shocks and pumpkins, we held our first mixer, Pumpkin Prance. Later in the year we invited our future classmates froml Abbott to attend our first class party, May Daze. During our sophomore year, the class enrollment reached its high of 372 members. We chose Donne Plote, president: Don Valentine, vice-president: Rosemary Mortellaro, secre- tary: and Sue Linder, treasurer. We called our class party the Fifty-two Fantasy. Our class sweaters of hunter green and white, our rings, a white carnation for our flower, and our motto, Today's effort builds tomorrow's success , were all selected. We became juniors at the mid-century. Fred Steffen was elected president: Allen Skjol- dager, vice-president: Sue Linder, secretary: and Elizabeth Shock, treasurer. Iunior Inn- Revue was chosen for our mid-semester party. Our junior play, Green Stockings, was a tremendous hit. The Iunior-Senior Prom, Moonlight Magic , was the major co-operative activity with the seniors. At last we became the upperclassmen, seniors. Dave Nelson was elected president: Donne Plote, vice-president: Sue Linder, secretary: and Pat Weeks, treasurer. Mr. John Conzelman was appointed the assistant sponsor for the senior year. Our Homecoming will long be remembered as one of the best. At Touchdown Tempo , the homecoming dance, Fred Steffen and Sue Linder were crowned King and Queen. Years Ago will be recorded in school history as one of the best senior plays. Candy Cane Capers was selected as the name for our Christmas class party. The ingenuity of our class members was cleverly shown in the costumes worn to the Maskapade , a dance sponsored by us for the entire student body. Class Day, Baccalaureate, the Prom, and all other Commencement activities will never be forgotten. Awards Day and Honors Day reviewed our achievements. We ,tried to be constructive leaders so that our record of achievements, particularly in the field of scholarships, music, dramatics, speech and athletics, will make the class of 1952 one to be long remembered, 24
