Inexperienced except for one member fDave Cooperj they started their season with last year's best-ever record for Hillsboro casting a shadow across their path, Not allowing this to dampen their spirits, this spunky team went on to tie the school record Q21-10j and go far- ther in state tournament play than any other local team, winning third in the Class M Regional at Flat River, HHS 54-4'7 Doe Run HHS November 14 Hawks won first game of season from Wildcats of Doe Run with Reed contributing 27 points. HHS 45-43 Union HHS November 21 In this hard -fought clash the local Hawks gained a thrill- ing came-from-behind victory over the visiting Union team, HHS 88-53 Bismarck HHS November 25 A savage attack of the basket in a 31-point third quarter gave Hillsboro's undefeated quintet a convincing triumph over the Bismarck team, HHS 55-57 DeSoto December 3 Suffering our first loss of the season in our own invitational toumey at Hillsboro the DeSoto Dragons edged the Hawks by a slight two points in the last quarter. HHS 68-57 Northwest December 4 ln this consolation semi-final, the Hawks blasted the Lions from House Springs 68-57. Ronald Reed hit 21 to take scoring honors, HHS 61-34 Valle of St, Gen. December 6 Winning this game the Hawks clinched the consolation trophy.
