Henry David Thoreal THEME FROM MAHOGANY Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know? Do you get what you're hoping for? When you look behind you there's no open door. What are you hoping for, do you know? Once we were standing still in time chasing the fantasies that filled our minds. And you knew how I loved you but my spirit was free, laughing at the questions that you once asked of me. Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to , do you know? Now looking back at all we planned, we let so many dreams just slip through our hands. Why must we wait so long before we see how sad the answers to those questions can be . Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Don Don Don Don Don Don Don Cynthia Gabay Karl Gross Donald Hammer Lon Hammer Don't walk in front of me I may not follow. Don't walk behind me . Robert Hofmeister I might not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend. Yeah, I'm a senior, so what about it? So there's only two weeks left of school, and then I'm out in the big world. Can't wait until graduation night . . . it's going to be great. I'1l cruise up front, grab that dip- loma, say, thanks buddy, and run. S'pose I don't know where I'm running to though. Before, all I did was follow the rest of those darn rowdies. I knew I could always find someone at a game, a party, or the bowling alley. But now it's gonna be different. We're all going to take off and try to make it on our own. Listen to this joke - letting graduation get to him after twelve years of being a hard guy. Oh, geez . . . Yea, it's time to make the scene in class, guess I might even miss that when it's over. Check ya later, buddy. Thanks, see ya, bye. Carol Hooker Douglas Husom Paul Hynek Judith Hofrichter Timothy Hubbard Bonnie I eff eries It's graduation and it's unbe- lievable that I'm here. They'll call my name in a few minutes, and I'll walk up to receive my diploma . . . where do I go from there? I've always had the security of the school routine and its activities, surrounded by the friends I was so familiar with. Now we'1l all be going in differ- ent directions, and I wonder how long it will be before the memo- ries that meant so much start to fade. After twelve years of this you would think I would be ready to move on, but I feel like I'm leaving a part of me behind. Maybe that's good though, because I really have changed in the four years that I've been here. Well, pretty soon they'll get to my name. Then I'll be up there, and it'11 be all over. In a way, I guess everything's really just beginning . Julie Johnson Gloria Kapuscinski Nancy Kapuscinski today . . . Senior center- fielder Lenny Hynek was elected captain, and soph- omore pitching ace Greg Stanek was elected M. V.P. Both Hynek and Stanek were also first team a1l-con- ference picks. Although there are six senior ball- players graduating, Tiger baseball will have a solid nucleus returning . The Junior Varsity baseball team coached by Joe Reinart finished the season with a record of 2-6 . Prospects look promising for the future of Tiger baseball. The Girl's Softball team highlighted their 1975 season with a conference championship. Despite two games being rained out, the team accumulated a 5- 1 record. New Lisbon provided Hillsboro with its only defeat, 11-13. Hillsboro's biggest romp was 37-6 at Wonewoc's expense. The Tiger Track team placed 8th in the confer- ence for the 1975 season. It was a year for shattering records. Tim Hubbard broke a school record and was conference champ in the 440 yard run with a time of 53.1 seconds. He also broke a school record in the 880 yard run with a time of 2:08. Bill Postel, a freshman trackster broke a school record in the two mile run with a time of 10:51.3. This is unusual because he didn't run the two mile until the New Lisbon meet. He placed well at New Lisbon, and continued to run the two mile. Later, at the confer- ence meet, Bill broke his own record. Keep on trac- kin' guys! The Hillsboro Golf team swung into action under the direction of Coach Hanna. The golf team devoted much of its time to practice and minor matches as they were a young team. In the confer- ence match they did participate in, they were sixth out of sixteen. The Hillsboro Girl's track team under the direction of Coach Fry, completed a successful 1975 sport sea- son. The girls practiced four nights per week, run- ning inside until the weather outside improved. Gradually, each girl tried to find events in which they were both interested and skilled. The first meet, the test to see if each could last the season, took place on a wet, snowy track. But conditions improved, and the team became a well-knit unit. Girls recognized for their skill and leadership were given the following awards: captain - Kathy Nevsi- mal, most valuable - Mel Boston. The team won three of their six meets, and placed fifth in the con- ference meet. KNEELING: I. Havlik, K. Fitch, D. Myhre. STANDING: Coach Hanna, D. Hammer, J. Sherman, A. Sosinsky, D. Roberts, J. With the use of horses from the city park we constructed a car- ousel for the centerpiece of the gym. For the backdrop we made a large ferris wheel with Scar- borough Fair at the top. We drew and painted a collage of fair scenes which covered one whole side of the gym. We used red, blue, green, and yellow crepe paper streamers for the ceiling. We also used numerous balloons of all sizes, shapes, and colors to add to the fair atmos- phere. To add the finishing touches of a fair we sold cotton candy. The Prom began at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 1975 with Cozmos providing music. The 1974 Junior Prom King Steve Shaker and Queen Linda Winc- hell crowned Gary Stanek and Julie Johnson the 1975 King and Queen. The other members of the court were Nancy Kouba and Kevin Fawcett, Cindy Gabay and Bob Hofmeister, Mary Jo Picha and Dave Aponte, and Lori Ham- mer and Steve Unbehaun. Dawn Urban and Andy Evans were the crown bearers. On Monday, May 5, 1975, we came to school early to 'disman- tle' all of our decorations. In one and a half hours' time we had demolished many hours of work. ,, I s if a c 1 '. 'A 'u a fi' . J .,. a E Andy and Dawn get better acquainted. Homecomin '75 The 1975 Homecoming Festivities got under way with Stunt Night on Thursday, October 2, 1975 at 7:30 p.m. The evening began with the crowning of the King and Queen. Halfback Tim Hubbard was King and Nancy Kouba was Queen. Senior Repre- sentatives were Lori Machovec and Bill Kelbel. Dor- othy Dolezal and Chuck Housner represented the Jun- ior Class. Terri Hammer and John Nachtigal were the Sophomore Representatives. Freshman Repre- sentatives were Beth Knower and Mike Barz. The stunts consisted of twelve skits presented by classes and organizations. The high school cheer- leaders took first with their skit. Second place went to the junior high cheerleaders. The Class of '76 took third place . After a lot of red tape the seniors built the bonfire as usual. Because of the new federal ruling about school attendance the seniors were not allowed to build the bonfire during school ho11rs as in previous years. So, the seniors were ambitious and started collecting 'junk' on the week-end before the bon- fire. To get the bonfire completed on time the sen- iors started at 4:30 a . m . on Thursday. Another hassle that the seniors had was the ques- tion of whether they would be allowed to burn wood. The school board finally decided to let the seniors burn wood and the bonfire was successful. lst Place - Seniors 2nd Place - Sophomores Class of 76 Besf Ever? Three tests were written by each student and then a total of the scores of individual students became the team score. The top three schools were awarded trophies in both the large and small school divisions. Individual award winners for Hillsboro were Carol Hooker and Tom Nova- check. It posed the problem of a lazy hillbilly father trying to find husbands for his six daughters. The oldest girl, not being exactly the rnarriageable type, forces him to use his shotgun for 'persuasive' purposes. The entrance of a 'dude' and his haughty aunt, a family feud, and the efforts of various members of the family interact in the final wedding scene for an unexpected, but happy ending. This hilarious play, with its realistic sound effects, live props, and little unexpected incidents, will hold a special place in our Senior memories. Although there was not adequate space to use all of them, several appear below and on the next page. They are typed the way they were originally written. Americas birthday is July 4. I like George Washing- ton. I like bicentenial quarters. - Tammy Kaus, grade 1 Americas birthday July 4. - Mark Huebner, grade 1 Americas Birthday I love Americas Birthday Because you have a good Dinner. The bicentenial is a good day for me and you. And America is 200 years old. And we have chicken or turkey. - Annette Slama, grade 1 The bysanteneeo Birthday and jorg washington first presedet and Lincan was the 16th presedent - Sean Moe, grade 1 The 200th birthday it is on July 4th . the Indians gave the Pilgrims food . - Pedretti, Sue, grade 2 You may not know that bi means two. What the Bicentennial means to me is that I'm glad that there's an America. Maybe America is glad too. I hope so. - Jill Holverson, grade 2 I think the Bicentennial is great. Matter a fact I think it's wonderful. There is so much to learn, like politics. - Teddy Roberts, grade 2 This country is free. There will be parades. The 200 hundredth birthday makes me feel happy. - Curtis Orsburne, grade 3 I think that the Bicentennial means that the United States is going to be 200 years old when it is the 4th of July. The Bicentennial animal is the horse. - Kenneth Hoefs, grade 2 It means to me that it is the 200th birthday of America. I think that the Liberty Bell is for the Bicentennial too. It is like Va1entine's Day to me. It is America's Birthday. - Joann Jindrick, grade 2 It is America's 200th birthday. The birthday is on July 4th. Some people helped America get free . - Kristy Burmaster, grade 2 It is the 200th birthday of America on July 4th. - Danny Thompson, grade 2 The Bicentennial means to me Americas two hun- dredth birthday. The Bicentennial means to me the signing of independence. The Bicentennial means to me America's freedom. The Bicentennial means to me there are going to be fireworks on July 4th. - Michael J. What the Bicentennial Means to Me is that 50 states have made it through 200 years. Our country is beautiful and ever since the first president our country has been free for as long as I have been alive. So keep America free. - Roger Lowrey, grade 3 That the 13th colonies came to America and George Washington fought the Revolutionary War. Betsy Ross made the flag. Paul Revere rode to Boston saying the British are coming. - Pat Valencia, grade 3 It means that this is America's 200th birthday. And that everybody should celebrate back in the early days. They should dress up like back in the early days too. It means that everybody should love to live in America, because it is a free and beautiful country. It never gave up. We also have good citizens. And good citizens make a good country. - Tracy Gabay, grade 3 To me the Bicentennial means lots of things like our nation 200th birthday the Revolutionary war, Paul Revers Ride and the Declaration of Independence . - Mike Fanta, grade 3 This Bicentennial year brings to my mind the Minute men. The minute men were volunteers and did not take pay for fighting British troops. They were called the minute men because they were prepared to fight in a minutes notice. Many minute men were killed. - Mike Valencia, grade 5 The Bicentennial means to me Liberty. Liberty means freedom. But I as a child or even some adults don't really know what freedom is because we have not lived where people are not really free. - Margie Steckel, grade 5 When I think of the Bicentennial it reminds me of freedom. Many people didn't have freedom. They were under the rules of people. They were like a toy soldier that you wind up. They automatically go, they can't turn around, they just go the way you point them. Slaves were ordered around like that. They had to do what you told them. People are still told what to do for instance. At school you are told what to do, at work. But it isn't as bad you are learning. They were to but in a bad way. - Brad Nelson, grade 5 The bicentennial to me means the Declaration of Independence, Abraham Lincoln, George Washing- ton, and Thomas Jefferson. It means fireworks, stars, stripes, and those glorious colors - red, white, and blue. It means that our country has grown and shall continue to grow, because nothing can stop us now. It means that all wars are hopefully over, and this country is free . - Deanelle Burmaster, grade 6 It means that this country has been free for 200 years. Our fathers fought for this land, men gave up their lives so we could live in a better land. It means we are lucky that we live in a land like this and we should be thankful for it. - Carolyn Janousek, grade 6 The bicentennial means being freed for two-hun- dred years. Having the freedom of Religion, of the Press and for the freedom of Speech. Lots of people giving up their lives for freedom. - Mary Haas, grade 6 I 'f ,-ifiiaiiifffig ' QQ- f V fb .X ,km iff: N . nt E.-Q' -c' L -' ,'. t 'JV ,. . . .
