GULF The 1974 Hillsboro High School golf team showed promise in a weather-shortened spring season. Hills- boro, led by the crutch-hopping Coach Pat Tangney, finished third in the six-team conference meet and participated in the Richland Center invitational. The team members were Cleft to rightj J. Hofrichter, W. Reidle, R. Peterson, G. Shear, M. Novy, and Coach P. Tangney. In three matches, Hillsboro con- quered Brookwood while suffering two losses to Won- ewoc-Center. GIRLS SOFTBALL When early spring came, out came the bats, balls, gloves and the Tigers' softball team. These girls took off their coats, scarves and mittens and exchanged them for caps, jackets and shorts. Cold , hard , but fun practices began the season for the enthusi- astic athletes. As the season progressed, con- flicts developed concerning practices and schedules , and team spirit deteriorated. The team finished with an even sea- son record . Barb Thompson was elected captain and Terry Cob- lentz most valuable player. Members of the team were Ctop to bottoml B. Thompson, T. Revels, D. Fanta, M. Picha, T. Coblentz, I. Wopat, M. Bloor, J. Girl's track came into its own this past year via organization, effi- cient scheduling and dedicated officiating. Practices revolved around individual work and dedication, meets were run against a variety of schools and the efficiency of meet managers at most contests made the outlook for girls' track seem limitless for potential growth and success.
