Forensics is an important part of a student's high school career. It prepares him for his future vocation by developing poise, confidence, and speaking ability. This annual event has always attracted many students and in the last few years, the forensics group has grown very large. Through this expanded group, many new talented orators have been discovered. 28 COACHES: Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Oliver, Mrs Schaller, Mrs, Hall. League Forensics Where 's Room 261? Wonder what I got? I dropped my mouth-guard' Hillsboro Hillsboro Hillsboro Hillsboro Hillsboro Hillsboro Hillsboro Hillsboro The 1965 football team finished with a 4-2-1 conference record and a third place conference finish. The team had a large turnout of sixty boys, which 'include eighteen seniors. These seniors set an excellent example of participation by a class in an activity. This is necessary, especially in football, and it is hoped that it will be continued in the future. A strong defense and an aggressive offense marked the Orioles' play. Many of the boys pre- pared themselves during the summer, this helped them in their individual efforts, demonstrating what can be done if one is willing to put in extra time. The team and coaches worked hard, and this combined with the cooperation and support of the administration, faculty, students, and townspeople, enabled Hillsboro High School to be well represented in football. 13 Bangor 7 9 Onalaska 19 12 Weston 2 26 Wonewoc .7 15 - on 3! This year an old tradition was broken. The King and Queen were crowned by Coach and Mrs. Milfred before the skits began in order that they might reign over all the homecoming fes- tivities. This year the King was Steven Daines and the Queen was Arlene Verbsky. After the skits the students followed the Pep Band to the athletic field. A pep session was held at the field in front of the huge bonfire. The senior football players each gave a short talk and then Coach Milfred expressed his views on the game. At 3:00 P.M. on Friday the homecoming parade began. At 7:30 P.M. the Hillsboro Orioles faced the Royall Panthers in an exciting football game. The final score was Royall 27 - Hillsboro 6. After the game the dance was held in the high school gym. The Grand March began at 11:00 P.M. The football players and their dates formed a court of honor for the King and Queen Members of the court were as follows: Juniors, Roger Fish and Carole Erlandsong fSophomores, Bob McCoy and Pam Liskerg Freshmen, Doug Marshall and Karen Smith. From the first piece of crepe paper on an unborn float to the last echoing trumpet note in the darkened gym - homecoming was a time of many moods. It was a busy time - one of promising dreams and exciting. hopes. Each student can only witness four, and each separate year is carefully stored in his treasury of memories. CLASS COLORS Gold and White CLASS FLOWER Yellow Rose BACCALAUREATE: Sunday, May 22, 1966 COMMENCEMENT: Thursday, May 26, 1966 Class Hisiorg We, the graduating class of 1966, entered the doors of Hillsboro High School, in the fall of 1962 as freshmen. One of the first tasks set before us was the election of class officers. As president, we selected Al Kauklg vice-president, Dan Resacg secretary, Pam Benishg and treasurer, Steve Benish, with Cherie Mitchell and David Olson as stu- dent council representatives. Mr. Roberts and Mr. Schroeder became our class advisors. Freshman representatives to Homecoming were Rick Kouba and Sandy Erpenbach. A1- den Kaukl and Pam Benish represented us at the Junior Prom. We returned the next year as sophomores, this year electing Steve Daines as presi- dent, Pam Benish as vice-president, Sandy Erpenbach as secretary, and Al Kaukl as treasurer. Student council representatives were Rick Kouba and Jane Picha. Mr. Schroeder and Mr. Roberts returned with us as advisors. Homecoming representatives were Tom Fawcett and Janice Farra. Steve Daines and Paula Clark were sophomore royalty at the Junior Prom. Our all-important junior year had finally arrived. Rick Kouba was elected president, Mike Markee, vice-president, Sandy Housner, secretary, Jeanne Peterson, treasurerg and Wes Hansbery and Dan Resac, student council representatives. Representating the junior class at Homecoming festivities were Tony Fronk and Sandy Housner, King Rick Kouba and Queen Paula Clark reigned over the regal Junior Prom. In the Misty Moonlight was selected as the theme. The gym was decorated in shades of blue and silver, with a silvery moon and tranquil silhouettes adding the special touches that made the Prom an unforgettable evening. We returned as seniors in August of 1965. For our last year, we elected as president, Mike Markeep vice-president, Tony Fronk, secretary, Donna Kouba, and treasurer, Dan Resac. Student council representatives were Jeanne Peterson and Neil Neinast. Mr. Roberts and Mr. Schroeder continued with us as advisors. We were indeed proud of our Homecoming King and Queen, Steve Daines and Arlene Verbsky. In January of 1966, we made the move to our new Junior-Senior High School. Mike Markee and his date shared honors as the senior representatives at the Junior Prom. As we look back, we can more fully realize the benefit of our high school experi- ences. The class of 1966, in particular, had one of the most unique opportunities of any of the other graduating classes from Hillsboro, for we were the first. Not only are we able to say that we were the first to graduate from the new school, but we were the last seniors to enter the doors of the old building in the fall of the year. Our experi- ence was unique. We are indeed grateful to all those who prodded us along the road to learning and helped us to realize ourselves and our future goals. RACHEL R.
