The Board of Education Plans Ahead . . . The Hillsboro schools are fortunate to have an alert and dedicated Board of Education. Evaluating the total school picture, the board members sacri- fice a great deal of their time for the many meetings involving: budget, cur- riculum, employees, students, integration, and buildings. We are indeed indebted to these dedicated citizens who are working to provide the best educational opportunity possible for the youth of the Hillsboro School District. 1' n,,g,,q5f5fj5 . ny- 'pf -'a--bt,-rr. ,.. ,,-75-e'P,Zua.S-'f -'Jyeq-I-: 'v:t4fz':2':a':f'-H-1522frif:'f:301-4 . . . K 9 The cold weather doesn t stop anyone from enjoying this im- portant game. I Crown Thee, Queen Donna. I Crown Thee, King Frankf' Donna Haas beams as Mrs. Finley crowns her 1961 Home- coming Queen. Mr. Finley proudly crowns Frank Nemec 1961 Homecoming King. The beautiful music of the Don Kirst Orchestra is enjoyed by all. The boys fight hard to win this impor- tant game. ,f s King Frank and Queen Donna take the lead in the Grand March as the orchestra plays Autumn Leaves, the theme for the event. A ' SM xvfiknlii 231' CROWNBEARERS William Eastman and Tamera Hagenah Prom 1961 This was the night! This was the occasion which brought pride to every graduate and thrills to every student. This was JUNIOR PROM! Excitement, expectation, enthusiasm, and perhaps even a touch of envy were mir- rored in the faces of a capacity crowd at the Hillsboro High School Auditorium on April 21. An expectant hush fell over the crowd as the crown bearers, Tamera Hagenah and William Eastman made their way into the auditorium. But the juniors took the spot- light when the lovely Queen Margaret Hora, accompanied by the handsome King Don Sterba, led the Grand March to the thrilling strains of Ebb Tide - the theme selected for this beautiful event - played by the Top Hats, the orchestra for the occasion. The seniors then exclaimed in pride as their maid Elaine Braithwaite escorted by Joe Levy gracefully made their entrance following the King and Queen. Sophomores beamed in grateful tribute when their maid Carole Hunter accompanied by Ron Benish made their way following the senior representatives. Then the freshmen showed their admiration as their maid Ruth Tatter escorted by David Brairhwaite took their place in the Grand March, After the 1960 Prom King Stuart Pacl and Queen Janice Haenel had placed the crowns on the heads of Queen Margaret and King Don, the crowd participated in the continuance of the Grand March. Everyone will certainly remember this colorful occasion with all the decorations in light blue and white. The decor featured a lighthouse built high in the rocks with lights reflecting on a waterfall below. In front of the stage was a scene depicting our theme Ebb Tide. The art work for the scene was done by Larry Holak. , ggipl y A 'Tl 2 ilgi : ix it H E? 'gig' l KK 2 .s, 1 1 - 15: tx X WQS 3 ' 1 5 5 5 5 ' z ' is A '. 5 twigs! He took me into the twilight zone and there I saw them all. Boy, the changes that have taken place - I'll tell you about them. Five years have passed since graduation and Mike Daines is the world's highest jumper. His highest jump is eighteen feet. Paul Lewis, his manager, can't figure it out. He's still trying to make the four foot jump. Millionaires Bob Lind, Alan Bell, and Duane Leak are the most successful farmers. They grafted peach trees on the cows horns and now have the only cows who give peaches and cream. Dennis Ellefson is well paid for swatting flies on the cows' backs. Margaret Hora and Marie Urban are Elvis Presley's private secretaries. But they have a problem. They must spend six months at Alcatraz for overtime parking - on their boss's lap, of course. Julie DeChant and Donna Haas are now registered nurses. They are now assisting Don Sterba, a famous scientist, to find a cure for writer's cramp. Karren Obert and Patty Verbsky own their own beauty salon for poodle dogs. Seems as though their salon for women didn't make enough money. From the safon the poodles go next door to their dress shop owned by Beverly Lebansky. Beverly employs the rich dress designer, Bonnie Sherman, to design clothes for the poodles. Mary Lou Fronk and Diane Travnick have formed the Educated Bums Society of America. Their only problem is there are too many members. Danny Elmer is competing for the title of The Greatest Daredevil Driver at Indianapolis Speed- way Race Track. Ricky Ravenscroft and Framk Nemec, owners of the race track, are the world's fastest drivers. Larry Holak is a well-known commercial artist for the advertising department of Gaines Com- pany. His slogan is, Puppies Are Our Business, Our Only Business. Lynette Johnson has found a way to lose eight poxmds a day, but her secret must remain unknown. Wilma Knadle fthe former Wilma Harpoldj has finished a portrait called You Name It. Seems as though her husband, Don Knadle, posed for the painting. Don is now a contractor for building dog houses. Judy Fronk, a famous singer, sings on the 'Kiddies' Hour every afternoon. Her latest hit record is I Saw Mamma Kissing Easter Bunny, Shirley Turnipseed fthe former Shirely Nevsimalj has just named her quadruplets Tulula, Tina, Lina, and Wawina. Janice Mislivecek owns her own ice cream parlor. Janice Moore and Joyce Sebranek are her waitresses, Trudy Shore has become a physical education teacher. She is having trouble teaching the fresh- man girls how to skip. Karen Bruce and Erma Jean Chlup are detectives for theHumbug Police Force. Both of them are now tracking down husbands. Ruth Jung, Sandy Connors, and Bessie Marshall are dancers at Judsey's Night Club, owned by Judy Baller. It seems that the Twist sends the girls to the doctor quite often. Sandi Lorch is a millionaire dietitian working for a rich oil tycoon. Her boss supplies her with plenty of oil for cooking. Loretta Eastman, Lawrence Welk's piano player, baby sits with Don and Wilma's kids during her spare time. Nancy Erickson is traveling around the world. She is having trouble in Madison. Her Maxwell has broken down again. John Eastman, a well -known author, has just finished his book entitled THE LIFE OF RILEY. The book tells about Marvin MacBain, a professor at U. C. L. A. Jerry Johnson owns the Grumpy Motors Company. His specialty is a car without a motor. His best mechanics, Roger Mislivecek and Pat Fawcett, thought of the idea and will be fired if the car doesn't run. Jim Sinkule and Leonard Stanek own their own ranch in Arizona. Their ambition is to raise kangaroos for the U. S. zoos. They are on the road to success raising kangaroo rats. Dave Obert, owner of Gusto Men's Club, loves fox hunting. He isn't going today because one of his hounds has a head cold. Their trainer, John Sprague, is baby sitting with the dog. Well Diary, I'm sure you will agree we all are a great success. It's nice to know not many know who wrote this. l02 INDEX A Dean Alderman 36, 56, 80, 86, 87 Marcella Anderson 34, 75, 76, 77, 82, 85, 86 Leonard Allikas 51 Rachael Allikos 38 INDEX B Donald Baldwin 47 Eldon Baldwin 36, 80 Orval Baldwin 32, 80 Carl Baller 48 James Baller 38 Judy Baller 18, 93, 94 Coleen Ballwahn 38 Larry Ballwahn 36, 63 Janet Baltz 50 Janice Baltz 50 Mark Baltz 50 Nancy Baltz 50 Patricia Barbour 34, 73, 75, 76, 82, 86, 87 Jean Barto 43 Susan Barto 41 Dale Beaty 100 Marion D.
