CLASS HISTORY CLASS MOTTO: The measure of a life is its donation, not its duration. CLASS COLORS: Blue and White CLASS FLOWER: Red Rose In 1950 the class of '54 stepped on the first rung of the ladder to success at HHS with Mrs. Lievens and Mr. Rolfe guiding our footsteps. Our first action as Freshmen was to elect Bruce Bonnette as President, Shirley Grimes as Vice President, Gayle Bennett as Secretary, and Virginia Johnson as Treasurer. Returning in the Fall as Sophomores, we had a much greater sense of security than we had the year before. We lost one member of the faculty, Mr. Connors, and several classmates, including Alice Southwick, George Auclair, and Gunnar Baldwin. Miss John- son and Shirley Duefield joined us. We all grieved the loss of our good friend, Terry Martin. Mr. Shopes and Mr. White pushed us upward as class advisors. Class officers were: President, Shirley Grimes: Vice President, Bruce Bonnette: Secretary, Gayle Ben- nett: and Treasurer, Mary Lee Stillings. We will remember our biology trip to Boston as the high point of our Sophomore year. Two down and two to go! We elected Lincoln Gilbert as President, Bruce Bonnette as Vice President, Gayle Bennett as Secretary, and Virginia Johnson as Treasurer for our Junior year. Donald Sweeney, Eddie Dutton, and Bill Cate were among the missing, and Rachel Snow joined us. We found that Miss Johnson, Miss Farmer, Mr. Derosier, and Mr. Rolfe had left our faculty, and Miss Beverly Allen, Mr. George Hayward, Mr. Fred- erick Calkins, Mr. Gray Wyman, Mr. Gerald Avery, Mr. Joseph Oakey, and Mr. James Bosco had entered. Our Junior Prom was quite a success, although several other ventures proved to be more financially sound. Bobby Thomas and Joanne Duggan were marshals for the Commencement exercises for the Class of '53, Returning in the Fall, we endeavored to set our standards high for our final year at HHS. We were happy to welcome a new student from Germany, Christa Herzig. Shirley Clark also joined us, and we lost Janice Bouchard. Mr. Oakey and Mr. Avery served as class advisors. Our class officers were Bruce Bonnette, President, Lincoln Gilbert, Vice President, Gayle Bennett, Secretary, and Virginia Johnson, Treasurer. Our reception for the incoming Freshmen was the first in a series of very successful social events, the most outstanding being our Sno-Ball, held in December. A supper and record hop were also enjoyed. As we write this history, we look forward to the annual Club '54, the class trip to New York, the banquet, and the culmination of our academic and social achieve- ments - Commencement I Our years together have been filled with the cornradeship and pleasure attained by working together, and in the years that lie ahead the memories and associations we have formed will be increasingly valuable to us all.
