Our history department, headed by Dr. Louise Wrinn, emphasizes the teaching of three histories: world history, modern history, and United States history. World history includes the study of the development of other countries. Leads The Way As the English department aims for the devel- opment of competence in writing, students write frequently and confer with their teachers about the effectiveness of their attempts to communicate through letters, expository writing, and imagina- tive writing. The Sentinel, the Gleam, and the Elm Tree provide opportunities for publication. Is Vital and Flexible Modern history encourages the student to read a newspaper and to keep up with current events. History is being made every day, and it is im- portant that one be able to understand what is happening today if he is to imagine what may happen tomorrow.
