TO ALL THE STUDENTS OF HILLCRESTHICH SCHOOL Dear Students, This year our school annual, PROSPECTUS, is dedicated to New York Citv. As the song goes, New York, New York ls a Wonderful Town, the Class of 1975, to whom this book is ded- icated xxill soon be seeking the fortunes to be found within the fixe boroughs. The public school system contains almost one hundred high schools, twenty-three of which are located in the borough of Queens, City high schools are like no others in this countryg they are large, complex, and provide multiple opportunities for all of the young people who attend. Hillcrest is unique among these many fine institutions. Those of you who have been fortunate enough to be part of our organization since we opened and those who have joined during the last several years, have found that the four cycle school year, the multiple option programs, the many opportunities for career and col- lege placement, the field work internships, and all of the ele- ments that make our school have provided you with superb preparation to do well in New York. Many of you will be going to colleges in the City University, or to the fine local private institutions that provide all kinds of advanced training. Some, of course, will be going to out-of- town schools. Probably, most of you will return to the City to establish your lives. And the opportunities are here for those students who move directly into careers after graduation. We know that all of you can find a place in the most challenging and exciting business and industry metropolis anywhere in the country, We are all very proud of our record and, particularly, of the fact that we have become an important part of this community. Relationships have been established with many organizations and agencies and, cooperatively, we have made it possible for our students to get an excellent start by learning how to cope with the realities of urban life and with the many demands that face people in the City. The newspapers this morning depict many problems that face New York City. But we have had concerns before and have managed to overcome, because of the diversity of the people and the skills of the individuals who make up our working force, our government and our institutions. You, the graduates of Hillcrest, will soon be in a position to make major contribu- tions to all of these segments of our City. The diploma you receive is a very important document. lt states that you are a graduate of Hillcrest High School of The City of New York and that you have completed an important portion of your early education. We know that you will look back with pride and remember the many opportunities that were made available in this high school of the future in a City that has a great future, I want to take this opportunity to wish the members of the Class of1975 the very best for everything that you may desire. I know that the entire staff shares this hope with me. We trust that our work has been done well. You have secured the goal that is available to all young people who enter high school, the Diploma. May your families enjoy the happiness that is theirs at this particular moment. We hope that you will remember us as being those concerned people who worked so hard to help you make the decisions to become an important part of our Wonderful Town and of the alumni of Hillcrest High School. David A. Salmon, Principal
