Dear old Hillcrest, may our hearts be filled with loyalty One of America's strongest char- acteristics is her competitive nature. ln high school, too, there are many types of competition, but the most exciting is found in our sports. What could be more tense than a TD made in the last minutes of the game, or the drive down the court for that last second basket, or that last hundred yard stretch when you pray for wings on your feet? And amid all the shouting and breathtaking motion, we find a strong sense of unity has devel- oped. The school is bound together in its desire to win. And in setting a goal to be the best athletes, we attain something of much more value. We build a strong charac- ter, find a sense of fair play, learn to be good losers, and create loy- alty for our school. Loyalty demonstrates the pres- ence of devotion and love. lt is a persistent determination to stand by our school and teams through the wins as well as the losses. No mat- ter where a school ranks, if this quality is missing, one of the de- sired results of competition has been lost. As we look back over this year, let us examine ourselves to see if we gave the school all the loyal support it needed. lf not, then we can give more in the years to come. Dear Old Hillcrest, may our hearts be filled with loyalty.
