:ig rewo rd Hillcrest High School is different things to different people. It is a building, it is a place of employment, it is an opportunity to participate with friends in study, athletics, and social activities, it is a challenge to young minds to develop and mature, it is happiness and sad- ness, success and disappointment, the loss of inno- cence and the moment of truth. The four years spent at Hillcrest are not merely a time of preparation for life: it is life. It is the American Dream come true, it is the hopes of proud parents, it is the future of today's youth. Hillcrest is at the same time many things practical and many things visionary: it has qualities both tangible and intangible. Many of its qualities can be seen, oth- ers can only be felt. Since music and poetry best ex- press deep meaning and stirring truth, perhaps the true meaning of Hillcrest is best embodied in the Hillcrest Alma Mater. Once a song is learned it is easy to sing it without thought of its meaning. Our hope is that this never happens with Hillcrest students as we sing our Alma Mater. While singing of honor, loyalty, and truth, may our words not be hollow sounds, but may our voices tell what our hearts truly feel. Throughout this book we have tried to tell in words and pictures the true and full meaning of Hillcrest High School by using the thoughts found in our school song. 't i --A
