Clubs teach leadership Distributive Educational Clubs of America and Vocational Industrial Clubs of America united in their goals of preparing students for lead- ership in the world of work. D.E.C.A. officers presented the purpose of the club and its projects on For Your Information, a local talk show appearing on KOLR-TV. Hillcrest V.I.C.A. became the first V.I.C.A. Club in Springfield to have a formal initiation service for their officers. The clubs joined together in a Christmas project and took food and gifts to a Christian youth home in Marionville. Under the supervision of Mr. Jesse Hudson, D.E.C.A. officers were Bob Boswell, president, Tommy Gaddis, vice-president, Joann Reiss, treasur- er, Debbie Carroll, secretary, Vickie Woodman, reporter, and Carol John- ston, parliamentarian. V.I.C.A. officers were Bill Mincks, president, Russ Essary, vice-presi- dent, Carol Shaw, treasurer, Cindy Cavaness, secretary, Diane Buck- master, reporter, and Danny Bolton, parliamentarian. Campout, ymnasties aid in skills, talents Physical Education Career Club, consisting of approximately 50 girls, led an active and enjoyable year. Among the activities in which the club participated were bowling, vol- leyball, basketball, and tennis. GYMNASTICS CLUB . . . It gave the girls a taste of life outdoors, and helped to develop skills in outdoor cooking and hiking. The club hosted two basketball Sports Days in December. Some of the duties were keeping score and running the concession stand. Officers were Krissy Smith, presi- dent, Cheryl McGhee, vice-president, Roberta Routh, secretary, Denise Pippin, treasurer, and Miss Marilyn Moore, sponsor. Gymnastics Club members partici- pated in individual competition and in inter-squad meets where vaulting, balance beam, and free floor were in- cluded. Purehasin art form leads to school enjo ment The Daring Daubers or the Art Club helped the school enjoy art through the purchase of a piece of art form. To further develop interest of art in the community and area, the 40 members visited Silver Dollar City and the Springfield Art Museum. Officers were Keith Gillming, pres- identg Vicki White, vice-president, Sheryl Goyer, secretary, and Brenda Scott, treasurer. Sponsors were Mrs. Suzanne Thompson and Mr. Steve Brite. Quill and Scroll, international hon- orary society for high school journal- ists, ended its activities with the an- nual awards 'banquet sponsored by the five high schools. At this banquet awards form journalistic excellence were presented. Editorial staffs for the following year were announced by the principals of each school. Approximately 500 students at- tended the Highlighter yearbook party sponsored by the society. QUILL AND SCROLL . . .
