'4 z ff-. ' Q Ga-1 1 V. Clubs share same ideas The Science and Math Club was designed to bring together stu- dents with common interest in sci- ence and mathematics. The activities included -educa- tional speeches by Dr. James Cook, anesthetist, and Mary Sheppard, medical technologist. Trips to the Medical Center and Hoffman-Taft were of great interest to the mem- bers as they widened their knowl- edge. Entries were made for the Science Fair. Officers were Steve Grant, president 5 Judy Doran, vice- presidentg Susan Breier, secretary. Sponsors were Mr. Frank Wann, Mr. Heaton Haynes, Mr. Walter Rose, and Mrs. Mary O'Neal. The American Field Service In- ternational Club assisted the for- eign exchange students in adiust- ing and letting members ,learn more about countries represented by exchange students. A phone call to Germany, spon- sored by the A.F.S., allowed Klaus Loeffler to talk to his family at Christmas. Officers Danny Stiver, Mary Compton, and Linda Burk- hardt, along with 32 members, at- tended the district workshop at Parkview and aided in home selec- tion of Americans Abroad. 413 r Sm.-W Foreign exchange student Klaus Loeffler accepts his Christmas present, which was money for a telephone call to his home in West Germany on Christmas Day, from A.F.S. club member, Denise Harvey. The members found themselves discussing questions of internation- al interests at the United Nations at Greenwood Laboratory school. To gain experience in learning how elections are run, some worked vol- untarily in the state and national elections in 1970. They heard speakers on opposing sides in the recent city elections talk on wheth- er to change or not to change the present form of city government. The purpose of the Quill and Scroll, an international honorary society for high school journalists, was to place journalism on a high level at Hillcrest. One of the more active projects which is sponsored for the student body was the an- nual yearbook autograph party. Awards for journalistic excellence were given at the annual Journal- ism Awards banquet, sponsored by the chapters of the four public high schools.
