Students filled the top city spots in order to gain knowledge of how the city of Springfield is managed. The students taking the high es- teemed places were Andy McMillen who presided as mayor, Sara Reed, whose post was city managerg and Linda Steele who assumed the po- sition of the city's clerk. These stu- dents headed the city council meet- ing which was held on Model City Government Day. , Each group or board prepared iggfif if . i.+...-- resolutions which were presented for consideration. Many of the res- olutions presented ideas which aroused the community's interest. Such a resolution was that of the Park Board. This board, headed by Arlis Snyder, presented the idea of building a civic center on the fair grounds. Opposing this idea and presenting their own was the zoning and planning commission, headed by Lynn Williams. This board proposed that the civic cen- ter should be located in the down- town area. Cox Medical Center. They also presented the Diagnostic Clin- ic with plates of freshly baked cookies. Paula Williams, president, Syl- via Padget, vice-president, Mrs. Lindell Chastain, Mrs. Doris Allen, and Mrs. Genevieve Moore, spon- sors, provided a better understand- ing of home and family life for- the 48 members and helped im- prove cooperation among future homemakers and adults. The Future Farmers of America Club observed its national week in February with several activities. A booth with displays was set up in the Battlefield Mall Shopping Center.
