Lzmggtnge Arts Class Methods Give Variety to English Through a variety of class instruction in the language arts program, students learned to express themselves more eftectively in speech and in writing. The required subiects English I, ll, and lll, dealt with theinstudy of grammar and usage, vocabulary develop- ment, oral interpretation, and creative writing. English lll emphasized American literature and the ideals of Ameri- can democracy. lncluded for the first time in the study of literature was a unit on Contributions of the Negro to the American Heritage.
