Board of Education Promotes Future Plans for Educational Growth Elected by the community and working for the students, teach- ers, and parents of the greater Springfield area, the Board of Education promoted educational welfare for pupils in the Spring- field Public Schools. ln planning for the various levels of education, the Board took in consideration such things as new industry, mobility of local population, and the rate of increase in over-all student population. As the Board became aware of the tremendous growth of the city, it planned afacile educational program to determine the future needs of the students. ln recognition of some of the needs this year, the citizens of Springfield voted approval of a three-million dollar bond authorization which provided for several major projects to be available by the fall of 1970. One of these major proiects will be the addition of 12 class- rooms and two girls' physical fitness rooms at Hillcrest High School. To be benefited through the Board's planning will be Parkview and Glendale High Schools as well as the Vocational- Technical School, Pleasant View and South Kickapoo Junior High Schools. Additional elementary classrooms are to be added and additional sites for future uses to be selected. The iob of providing facilities, qualified teachers, and a chal- lenging educational program requires a great deal of time on the part of each member. Many extra hours are spent formulating plans and decisions.
