Coach Sullivan, in his fourth and final year as varsity baseball coach, guided the Pioneers to a 10-9 log. We finished in 4th place in the CCC with a 5-5 record. How- ever, the final record was not truly indicative of the talent on the team. Seven of the nine losses occurred in the first two weeks of the season. The team bounced back and won seven decisions in the last two weeks. For the second time in three years, the Hill nine was only one game away from the state tournament. We were sparked by brilliant pitching from Bob Ramstad, Denny Coleman, and Joe Bennett in the playoffs. The Pioneers defeated St. Agnes and Benilde, but lost two out of three to Cretin. Bill Klatt hit for the best average in the team, -' ,,. sporting a .350 over all 'Q 'haf-we an mark and a .326 confer- A ence average. Denny 5 I Grabowski was the confer- ' ence RBI leader as he drove in 14 runs over the year. Ramstad's 0.92 ERA was tops of the mound corps, but Coleman and Bennett had sterling ERA's. 161 iii! W-ef . St. Sauver also set a new school broad jump record of 2l'2 . Rick Cover, who holds the CCC high jump and pole vault record, won these titles in the Catholic state meet.
