This year at H.l.C., with the absence of the traditional lndians in football and basketball, the college organized an intramural cage program to aid in physical education activities required by the military service. Coach Charles Romine Was responsible for the organization of the program and after his departure Vance Sumner took over the physical education instruction and managed things well. The MacArthur lntramural basketball league was set up with six teams comprising the loop. The Rangers, Thunderbirds, Commandos, and Bugs Bunnies represented the high school. After a month and a half of cage hostilities the Ieeps finished victorious in every single melee to capture undisputed posses- sion of the conference championship. MacABTl-IUR CONFERENCE STANDING W. Working under seemingly insurmountable obstacles, the heads of this department have succeeded in directing an outstanding year of sports. Slow in starting While losing their opener to the Rangers, the Bunnies received basketball recognition by downing the Commandos. The third contest was dropped to the Ieeps and the next two were taken. Iohnny Curtiss, great Eagle gridiron star, again displayed his athletic ability by play- ing a fine game of groundball at the guard slot. Hershell Hoss Wells, fleet little Bunny forward, proved a terror on offense. The Bunnies were small but the team was balanced and cage technique was not lacking.
