They learned the basic ABC's and 123's . The other students built on to what they had learned from the previous year. Each year the building becomes harderg the basics seem to change and don't seem quite so basic anymore. With the rise in educational technology and greater demands on learn- ing, the teachers had to build on to what they knew and learn more about computers and other new teaching aids. Together, the teachers and students built on to their learning skills while they built new experiences and relationships. fbelowl Mrs. Williamson builds with her alternative classroom kids. , ,, ,567 ' Mr. Alvin Birkholz has been teaching at H.C.H.S. for nineteen years. Judy Schrank is our elementary Libarian. Our school depends on more then just teach- ers. If we had no janiter our school would not be clean. Teachers need extra help so our teach- ers aids help in many ways by running off pa- pers, putting up bulletin boards and watching kids out on the play ground area. The cooks are also needed in the school. If there were no cooks we would have to bring cold sack lunches or eat up town. More important people include the bus drivers. It there were no bus drivers the parents would have to bring there kids to school everyday. We also have a librarian for the Elementary so our young generation can read and explore new things. Without all of these important people our school would not function properly. It was their first year for lockers, tardy bells and team sports. They began to feel like one of the older kids. Mrs. Stahl and Mrs. Shrank are the seventh grade advisors. Doug Sie- monsma-presidentg Eric Lewis- vice-president, Jessica Saunders- secretary and Helen Sawyer- trea- surer, helped their advisors plan the activities for the year. Each nine weeks the students' schedule changed, fitting in a wide variety of classes. These classes in- cluded: math, science, English, so- cial studies, home ec., shop, key- board, guidance, band and choir. The last two periods of the day were reserved for sports. The boys played football, basketball and track, while the girls participated in basketball, volleyball and track. The girls basketball teams had a tough time during the year. The eighth grade finished with a O-13 record while the seventh grade won 2 and lost 9. Mr. Knapp and Mr. Larson, the coaches, said the girls have a lot of tal- ent and should do well when they reach the high school level. The boys basketball team gained alot of confidence in their basketball ability under their coaches, Mr. Larson and Mr. Knapp. They learned a lot in junior high and hope to become better players in their beginning years of high school. Track is one of the kids' favorites. This is a sport everyone can enjoy. Not only can one show his or her skill with others, but can show their own individual skill as well. lvlr.
