Mary Pat Belmont is the only member to complete the twelve-year trip here in H.C.H.S. Frank Bud Simpson and Robert Bob Waddington also began the journey here but left 'during the third year of the voyage. Ardith Thompson and Louise Martin were two more members of the original crew. Miss Addenson was our skipper for this first year. On the second year, we had a new skipper-Miss Bruce. This year we gained two new members. They were Carolyn Linstrom from Rapid City and Robert Bob Johnson fro-m New Underwood. In our third year, we had three skippers-Mrs. Mitchell, Miss Amston and Mrs. Schweggert. This year we lost Bob Waddington, who moved and went to Slate Creek School, and Bud Simpson, who moved to Custer. Our captain during the fourth year was Mrs. Mitchell. We were all glad to see Bud Simpson come back this year, as well as four new Pilgrims. They were Betty Harris from Castle Creek, Irene Goodart from Plankington, Janice Rabe from Rapid City and Doris Caswell from Timber Lake. In the fifth year of our voyage, our skipper was Mrs. McVey and our crew membership remained the same as the year before. Mrs. Caldwell captained us during the sixth leg of our journey and Marlene Moore joined the crew. She had had an accident the previous year and was out of school. Mrs. Morehouse was our skipper during the seventh and eighth grades. Thesei were the years when we thought we were really grown up, but we ha-d many surprises coming. In the eighth year we were joined by Maxine Paine from Kennebec and Ruth DeNeui from River Grove, Illinois. Upon our graduation from grade school, there were twenty crew members and we all looked for- ward to the big step to high school. As green Freshmen we were rejoined by Bob Waddington and three new crew members. The new ones were Bob Haskell from Belle Fourche, Beverly McKenzie from Mundo and Elaine Horst from Wall. The most important event of this year was our initiation and the party we gave the Seniors. We were proud, as green Freshman, to have Coach Bob Burden as our sponsor. In our Sophomore year, we were joined by Rodney Alexander, Earl 'tPopeye Harris, Gene Albery and James Green, all of Keystone. James left us at the middle of the year to join the Navy.. Barbara Hall also joined our crew and we worked hard earning money for the Junior-Senior banquet of the coming year. For this year's class sponsor, we again had Mr. Burden. Our Junior year was the year of many activities. This year we presented our first play, The Green Light , with Mr. Burden directing. During the year we lost Betty Harris and Louise Martin, both of whom were married. Marlene Moore and Bob Haskell also left the crew. On April 28 we were hosts at the Junior-Senior banquet, held at the Ponderosa Cafe in Custer, with our theme being A Rose Garden . We again had Mr. Burden as our sponsor and with his help we were able to have a successful year. The last leg of our voyage--and the most important-was our Senior year. In this, the uclosing -door year of our long voyage--we enjoyed many activ- ities at Hill City High. We initiated the F'1-eshies with the greatest of cere-Q mony. Our class play was entitled Moonlight, and Applesauce , with the entire class participating. We raised money for our Senior Skip Day, which we enjoyed at Cheyenne, VVyoming, and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The Juniors held a very nice banquet in our honor at the Alex Johnson Hotel in Rapid City on May 10, and we have attempted to preserve some of the memories at Hill City High with the publication of this annual. The fourteen of us who have finished the long voyage, give thanks to Mr. Burden, our class sponsor for four years of high school, for making these years happy and successful. ri, 'S ,na MARY C. Librarian-I-2-3-1, Home Nursing-3 e, the Senior Class of 1952, being of at least half sound mind, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be our first, last and only will and testament. We have attempted to distribute, as fairly as we could, our extensive talents among the remaining pupils, realizing, of course, that they can never use them in quite the same capacity as we of this graduating class. We will and bequeath to the Junior Class, our wonderful sponsor in hopes that it will help in encouraging better cooperation be- tween .the various members of your class. He's a wonderful help. We will and bequeath to the Sophomore Class our ability to keep the upper hand in Student Congress-'in spite of Bob Benton. We will and bequeath to the Freshman Class our ability to be sophisticated and act our age, especially when teachers are in sight. To our dear faculty, we will and bequeath all our underclassmen and request that you educate them to walk in the better way of life. Of course you can't expect them to be as good as we, so don't be too hard on them. Each of the Seniors wishes to will his own special talents to an underclassman who he considers to be a responsible keeper. Use them well, kids! I, Rodney Alexander, will my sophisticated ways to Robert Hed- ger, better known as Red . I, Gene Albery, w'ill my ability to whistle to Delores Law, my gal. I, Doris Caswell, will my natural curly hair to Lois Gowan. I, Bob Wa-ddington, will my ability to pole vault to Ted Crisman. I, Frank Simpson, just haven't got anything to spare. I, Beverly McKenzie, will my ability to agree in Student Govern- ment to Bob Thompson. I, Ruth DeNeui, will my 5'8 to Eva Harris. I, Pat Belmont, will my hardy laugh to Bob Benton, to go along with his quite ways. I, Irene Goodart, will my cold hands to anyone who thinks he can keep them warm. I, Richard Waldner, will my ability to run the mile to Don Kindler. I, Earl Harris, will my butch haircut to Mr. Jelsema. I, Elaine Horst, will my good health to Midge Nussbaum. We hereby appoint Mr. Hagen as executor of our will and testa- ment and request that he file it away where all the rest 'is filed that is to be forgotten.
