1 The speech team of 1985-86 had a “Superior” year in all aspects of the word. Many first year and returning students received superior ratings at the contests. The first competition was held at Trumbull, where Hildreth earned many superior and excellent ratings. Among these were the Drama Interpretation. The members of the Interpretation were Janel Kruse, Leann Johnson, Tami Lindau, Brenda Casper and Ronda Soker. Also, getting superiors were Scott Schwartz in Extemporaneous Speaking, Shelly Swarthout in Poetry, Amy DeJonge in Entertainment and Tami Lindau in Entertainment. The next contest was the District 10 contest held at Hildreth on March 20th. The team won the contest with nine members qualifying for the state meet. The Duet Acting competitors Ronda Soker and Eddy Fekrache placed first in their Duet and also qualified for state. Other state qualifiers were Linda Bunger in Original Speaking, Adrienne Benz in Informative Speaking and Bob Alberts with an Entertaining Speech. Other speakers who earned superiors included Janelle Harms, Michele Pollock, Duane Day, Jay Halsted, Amy DeJonge, Shelly Swarthout and Scott Schwartz. Excellent ratings were earned by Kandy Hunt, Chris Eynon, Leann Johnson and Tarcia Frerichs. All members greatly appreciated Mrs. Duncans help and would like to thank her for making them superior speakers.
