Instant Replay 1980-81 in Hildreth was much like most other years. Driving Main Street after games or school events was still a Hil- dreth tradition. Students were looking forward to the completion of the new tennis court and made full use of the community swimming pool during the summer months. The Hildreth Lion's Tractor Pull in August was still the big event of the year for the towns- people . Kearney and Minden were the places to go for excitement on weekends and an occasional weeknight. (pictures, page 3) Taco Runs, Movies, Pizza, Bowling, and Shopping were some of the activi- ties that the Hildreth Student Body enjoyed in our two neighboring cities. 1980-81 was a period of change and excitement in the world around us. (pictures, page 4) Two big political stories dominated the scene; the Iran- ian hostage crisis and the election and inauguration of President Reagan. The United States was joyful of the long-awaited release of our American hostages which took place on their 444th day of captivity; January 20, 1981. Other big stories included the erup- tion of Mt. St. Helens in Washington state; the new scientific findings of the planet Saturn from pictures taken by the Voyager spacecraft; the curiosity created by the T.V. show Dallas (who shot J.R.?); the Los Angeles Laker's winning the 1980 NBA World Championship; the Philadelphia Phillies winning the 1980 World Series; the Oakland Raiders winning the 1981 NFL Super Bowl; the devastating earthquake in Italy; the continuing concerns of the dangers of nuclear plants and waste; and the Iran- Iraq conflict. With everything around us happening so fast, we consider ourselves lucky to be living in a town that, as we mentioned before, was this year much like any other year. In other words, you could say that Hildreth will always be a place we can identify with no matter what happens anywhere else. Hildreth will always be home. 2
