Senior Class Poem Here are the facts about a cl 5s alive. The Senior Class of 55 Helen Adam is a brain in our class. There's seldom a test she doesn’t pass. Rodney Hinrichs, slim and tall, Plays his trumpet for all. Pretty and smart, that’s Leola Frerichs, She’d be a pin-up in any army barracks! ! Don Wilken is a real nice guy, He’s going to be a minister by and by. Wanda Frerichs, is everyone’s pal; We all know that she’s Wayne’s gal. Gordon Loschen can really jump and run, When he hears the sound of that track gun. Marva Ann Fritson studies real hard, But still she’s lots of fun and everybody’s pard Don and Ron Kruse, twins, and on the basketball five, Play, pass, and shoot with lots of jive. Maxine Casper’s a talkative little gal, And is everyone’s Pal. Dick Fuerst is tall and silly, But we all like him ’ rilly. Carol Jean Hansen never has much to say, But she gets good grades anyway. Jerry Johnson is always full of fun and mischief. But to the teachers he’s just one big grief'. Donna Mae Schmidt lives on a farm, She works hard and doesn’t do anyone any harm. Gene Frerichs plays the tuba in band, And if anybody needs help he’s there to give a hand. Janet Johnson is a cute little chick, She’s going to make some guy heartsick. Denny Reil is tall, dark, and Handsome, Many a girl would like to hold him for ransom. ron Whipple 16 Sharron Whipple is going to be a farmers’ wife, And live happily the rest of her life. Class History In 1943 the September school term rolled around. Eight cute little ornery young- sters started their first day of school. What a happy bunch we were; Those who made up this group were: Maxine Casper, Janet Johnson, Don Kruse, Pon Kruse, Carol Hansen, Barbara Lantz, Dick Fuerst, and Merlyn Rahmann. At the second semester we gained Wanda Frerichs. Our teacher was Miss Leona Glenn. Miss Glenn with the same youngsters returned in the fall of ‘44 for the enrollment of the second grade. Upon entering the third grade we lost Wanda Frerichs who went to country school for a few years. Rodney Hinrichs and Gene Frerichs decided to come to Hildreth to fur- ther their education, so we gained the last of the second semester. Miss LaVina Kleen had the privilege of teaching us. In the 4th grade we started off into a year of adventure and excitement, with Joy Hendricksen as our teacher. This year we gained Glen Duis. The eleven of us continued on through the fifth grade, with Verna Vannier helping us to gain more knowledge. In the sixth year, Maxine Casper, Janet Johnson, Barbara Lantz, Carol Hansen, Merlyn Rahmann, Dick Fuerst, Gene Frerichs, Rodney Hinrichs, Ron Kruse, Don Kruse, made up the ornery bunch. Dwaine Ostebuhr joined us and we had the same teacher. Wanda Frerichs, Val Jean Quadhamer, and Paul Harms, joined us our seventh year. We lost Dwaine Osterbuhr. At the beginning of the eighth grade Barbara Lantz moved to Colorado. Howard Glenn was our teacher for both 7th and 8th grades. After eight long years of waiting, that moment arrived when we could walk up the high school steps along with new friends and classmates, from the country. Our lively group consisted of: Marva Ann Fritson, Helen Adam, Maxine Casper, Leola Frerichs, Wanda Frerichs, Janet Johnson, Carol Hansen, Merlyn Rahmann, Donna Schmidt, Val Jean Quadhamer, Don Kruse, Ron Kruse, Dick Fuerst, Paul Harms, Rodney Hinrichs, Denny Reil, Glen Duis, Gordon Loschen, Jerry Johnson, Gene Frerichs, and Don Wilken. In our Sophomore year we lost Glen Duis as he decided to move to Oklahoma. Sharron Whipple joined us in our Junior year. On entering our last and most exciting year we lost Val Jean who moved to Minden. We now had the name we longed for, “full Fledged Seniors.' After Commencement Exercises on May 19th, when we receive our diplomas, and turn our tassels, a night which we will never forget, we are now ready to enter into a world unknown, ready to face our future, on our own, but not alone. 17 Senior Class Will We, the senior class of 1955, being of sound mind, do hereby will and bequeath these assets to the following underclassmen, with the only stipulation being that, in return for our generous gifts, they must faithfully execute the official duties which shall be handed down to them when they become seniors. I, Helen Adam, will my seat in History class to Joan Jelkin so she won’t have to turn around every now and then. I, Maxine Casper, will my nickname ‘’gabby” to anyone who can fulfill the qualifi- cations . I, Gene Frerichs, will my nickname “Dad” to Dwaine Osterbuhr, provided he can figure out how I acquired it. I, Leola Frerichs, will my long blonde hair and my cheery disposition to Eleanor Hitchcock. I, Wanda Frerichs, will my fiance to myself since He’s the nicest guy I know. I, Marva Fritson, will my typing ability to whomever is office girl next year, provided she does as good a job as I did. I, Dick Fuerst, will my hot-lips (on the trumpet that is)to Kathy Glenn hoping she uses them for the same purpose. I, Carol Hansen, will my ability to attract curly-headed boys to my sister, Minnie, hoping she gets a “Curly” like I did. I, Paul Harms, will the two car wheels that I don’t use going around corners to Evon Fritson hoping she uses them. I, Rodney Hinrichs, will my 6’4” to Wayne Casper so they’ll “have it made” at State next year. I, Janet Johnson, will my ability to blush to June Johnson, hoping it doesn’t embarass her the way it has me. I, Jerry Johnson, will my mischievous ways to Roger Warnken, hoping he doesn’t get into all the trouble I did. I, Don Kruse, will my irresistible approach to the fairer sex to my brother, Gary, hoping he does as well as I. I, Ron Kruse, will my freshman interest to anyone who will guard her safely. I, Gordon Loschen, will my ability to attract blondes and redheads to anyone who will take full advantage of the ability. I, Merlyn Rahmann, will my ability to giggle to Elna Saathoff, hoping she uses it. I, Denny Reil, will my wooing ability to LeRoy Frerichs, hoping he gets as good re- sults as I did. I, Donna Schmidt, will iny Kearney interest to Karen Hinrichs, provided he doesn’t hinder her studying. I,.Sharron Whipple, will my cooking ability to Marilyn Lieske, since the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. I, Don Wilken, will my even temper to Ronnie Nordborck, hoping he keeps it even. To the Juniors, we will our scholastic ability, hoping it will set an example. To the Sophomores, we will our talents and our leadership ability. To the Freshmen, we will our congratulations for a successful year, and wish you all the luck in the coming years. We, the Senior Class of 1955, will the following assets to the faculty: To Mr. Lewis: All our pep and energy for his Model A Ford. Mr. Crist: All the luck possible in the coming years. Mr. Glenn: All the entrances we missed during play practice. Mr. Straatmann: All our live wires to his radio shop. Mrs. Lynch: All the aromas floating from the Home Economics Room. To the Janitor: All the paper we left on the floor and all the doors he unlocked for us. 18 Class Prophecy What: A reunion of the graduates of '55 Who: The graduates, their husbands, wives, and children When; May 19, 1965 at 10 A.M. Where: New gymnasium of Hildreth High School We were all happy to receive the invitation to the class reunion as we had missed our classmates and the happy carefree time we had in high school. As we compared experiences over the years passed we found that we had been blessed with fortune and success. The re- union started off with a bang, everyone boasting of their accomplishments. Ron Kruse and his cute little wife we all remember from high school arrived first with their two sets of twins, all with red hair. Ron is now employed at KHOL-TV station where he has his own comedian show, “Uncle Red.” Leola Frerichs who appeared on last weeks Look cover arrived in the latest fashions from gay paree. She has a long list of admirers but as yet she hasn’t made her choice. Gordon Loschen who got his B. A. Degree in Education from K.S. T. C. is now coach- ing on the West Coast in a small school near Hollywood. His stories informed us that his main interest was coaching] ] ] Janet Johnson arrived next with her three children and she informed us that she had been employed by the Public Consumer Company in Kearney as a secretarial typist and after being there a few months had married her handsome boss. She was certainly sorry that he couldn’t come with her but was too busy counting his millions. Jerry Johnson after finishing his four-year hitch in the navy is now busy with three occupations---Keeping Marsha happy, running his own little gas station and raising two little sailors for Uncle Sam. Gene Frerichs arrived with his wife and experimental corn samples that he had cross- ed and naturally everyone knew before they went home just how he had done it. He informed us that his five children would be along later. Don Kruse who took four years of college to learn better coaching techniques now manages thefamous girls’ basketball team, The Redheads. Of course he sticks to strict- ly coaching] ] ] ] Denny Reil is now a lumberman, he flew down from Oregon, having a hard time break- ing away from his job as manager of a large lumber company. He is doing a very good job supporting his wife Ardie and his three sons; Hewey, Dewey, and Lewey. Don Wilken who has now completed his seven years training to become a minister is practicing in a little community in the eastern part of Nebraska to gain experience for his seven years that he will spend as a missionary in South Africa. He has a wife and two children to accompany and help him. Donna Mae Schmidt who was head of the “Lonely Hearts Club” for six years has some important information for lonely old maids and bachelors. As we could all see by the looks of her husband it “pays to advertise.” Helen Adam arrived just hopping mad. The democrats had got things all messed up in Washington and as she was a Congresswoman she felt it her duty to straighten things out. 19 She received a telegram from her husband, who was clear up in Alaska prospecting, saying he couldn’t make it. Paul Harms and his fiancee arrived in his 1965 turbo-powered, black and pink Cadillac convertible. He informed us that he is the manager of the Kingsley Lumber Company and is really rolling in the dough! Marva Ann Fritson has done very well over the past ten years as she is editor of a thriving magazine, “Glamor , wife of a successful young business executive and the mother of four adorable children. Dick Fuerst has turned his dairy farm into a milk plant and has created a new and better milk which has the name, “Sunbeam. We want to thank Dick for the milk and crearo he supplied for the banquet.. We certainly have to admit it’s really different! Carol Jean Hansen, after leaving us in 1955 went to Tulsa, Oklahoma and worked as a receptionist until she met her Romeo who has five oil wells. Naturally they are doing quite well for themselves. Rodney Hinriches, after finishing seminary came back to his old home town where he is giving the congregation of St. Paul some really inspirational sermons. We all enjoyed meeting his wife and children. Merlyn Rahmann went to K. S. T. C. for two years, took up teaching kindergarten for five years but has now gone to the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital in Lincoln where she is helping make life for the children there much brighter. 20 GAPY SANDERS- Secretary ELVEPA ROCKER- President LYLE CASPER Vice - President JUNIORS LYLA CASPER - New Reporter LORRAINE HARMS - Treasurer ELNA SAATHOFF BARBARA WILKEN LARRY CASPER JOAN JELKIN RAYMOND FRERtCHS SOPHOMORES BOB WESTERBUHR - President JUNE JOHNSON - Vice-President MARILYN LIESKE - Secretary ROGER LOSCHEN - Treasurer LEROY FRER1CHS MINNIE HANSEN MARJORIE RAHMANN SOPHOMORES (continued) RONNIE NORDBROCK ALMETA FRITSON NAOMI JOHNSON WENDEL CASPER ALDENJOHNSON KATHLEEN GLENN WAYNE CASPER DONNA KNAUS GENE OSTERBUHR 24 FRESHMEN GARY KRUSE - President KAREN HINRICHS - Secretary SHERRY HEMJE - Treasurer BRUCE ZOBEL - Vice-President MARGERY BORGMAN - News Reporter (Not Pictured) DONNIE P1CKETTE SANDRA FRITSON LEON SANDERS FRESHMEN (continued) NEAL SCHWARTZ ELEANOR HITCHCOCK JOAN CASPER ROGER WARNKEN WILLIAM SILAS, LOIS GELLERMAN, TOMMY NICHLES. Our work this year con- sisted of a play entitled “The Mother Who Went Away,” and three readings. The play cast con- sisted of Janet Johnson, Wanda Frerichs, Leola Frerichs, and Marva Ann Fritson. We re- ceived an excellent at contest. Helen Adam took the Oratorical reading entitled the “Crisis of Character” to the District Contest. Sharron Whipple entered with a humorous reading en- titled “One Big Happy Family,” and Leola Frerichs gave the dramatic reading “White Lilacs.” All three readings received an Excellent rating. Sharron and Helen entered their readings at Kearney at Inter-State High Day. Helen received an Excellent and Sharron’s reading was one of the six top superior ratings given in the humorous division, so she had the privilege of giving it again in the afternoon and received an Excellent. We Senior girls certainly have enjoyed being in Dramatics, and we hope that anyone who has a chance will take advantage of the opportunity. Our director of dramatics for the year was Miss Verna Freeman. READINGS 45 “Deadly Ernest” Presented by the Senior Class May 5 and 6 CAST OF CHARACTERS Henry Gilcrest Aunt Ethel. . . Margie....... Y-TEENS The Y-Teen Club of Hildreth High School had a very successful year. Again we obtained 100 membership. Mrs. Halsey Glenn was our advisor. We attended our Area III Fall Conference Meeting at Franklin in September. Joan Jelkin was elected Vice-President for the next year. Our annual bake sale was held in November. Also in November the Y-Teen council gave the Y-Teen tea. Miss Cynthia Yun, a Korean student at Hasting’s College, was the speaker. At Christmas we went caroling and had our Christmas party. Each year a mystic candle is presented to the most outstanding Senior girl. Maxine Casper was voted to accept this honor. To complete our seventeen goals, we are required to do two service projects. The two we did this year consisted of sending used clothing, marshmallows, soap, etc. to Formosa and fixing a supply kit of crayons, scissors, pictures, and taking it to the Ortho- pedic Hospital at Lincoln.
