They were as follows: Billy Denman, Shirley Stuhmer, Dean Jelden, Harold Bunger, Lyle Nordbrock, Larry Schwartz, Brian Halbert, Lavon Johnson, Lily Anne Hansen, and Evon Nordbrock. During the second year only eight of the original ten returned. The ones lost during this time were Billy Denman and Lyle Nordbrock. We also gained Paul Harms. And so we were nine happy kids off in a year of adventure and excitement. Upon entering our third year we were all the same crowd, but on September 23 we lost Paul, and again on February 12 Lavon moved away. So we continued just us seven through the fourth grade of our phase of the educational world. At the beginning of our fifth term in Hildreth, two more joined us. They were Marilyn Tjaden and LaDonna Knapp. In the sixth grade Dean Jelden, Larry Schwartz, Brian Halbert, Harold Bunger, Evon Nordbrock, Marilyn Tjaden, Shirley Stuhmer, Lily Anne Hansen, and Paul Harms composed the lively group. In our seventh year we lost Paul H. but gained Peggy Endicot. At the second semester of the eighth grade, Peggy moved away. So on to high school we went with our knees knocking from fright and holding the name of the Green Freshmen. We started our new but exciting adventure with this group: Larry Schwartz, Harold Bunger, John Schmidt, Brian Halbert, Dean Jelden, Lavon Johnson, Harold Eckhoff, Donald Loschen, Carol Frecks, Shirley Stuhmer, Lily Anne Hansen, and LaDonna Knapp. At the beginning of the second semester we were joined by Karen Caspers. In our Sophomore year we remained the same except we lost Harold Eckhoff. In our Junior year Donald L. left this group, but we did gain Beth Schroder. On entering our last and most exciting year, we lost Lavon J. , but at last we carried the name of being full fledged Seniors only to enter into a world un- known following the Commencement Exercises on May 18, when we receive our diplomas and turn our tassels; a day never to be forgotten. Hildreth Public Librer: Class Will I, Larry Schwartz, will all my musical talent to Paul Harms; maybe he can get a few more public appearances. I, Brian Halbert, will my ability to pick locks to Jerry Johnson, providing he doesn't get caught. I, Shirley Stuhmer, will my ability to hook a man to Wanda Frerichs. I, LaDonna Knapp, will my artistic ways to Dick Fuerst if he can stay in one jslace long enough to accomplish something. I, Harold Bunger, will my quiet and agreeable ways to Ronny Nordbrock. I want it to stay in the family, you know. I, Lily Hansen, will all my ex-boy friends to Naomi Johnson, providing they don't hinder her volleyball playing. I, Dean Jelden, will my nickname, Jerky , to Sharron Whipple; it seems as though she likes it better than I do. I, Carol Frecks, will my studious ways to Dwaine Osterbuhr. Maybe he can find more time to study than I did. I, John Schmidt, will my manly physique to Leroy Frerichs, knowing that he will become the track all-star. I, Beth Schroder, will my glasses to Denny Reil. (Anyone who uses their eyes as much as Denny needs them. ) I, Karen Caspers, will my nickname, Pooch , to Mr. Crist's dog. We, the Senior Class of 1954, will the following to the faculty and the under- graduates: To Mr. Lewis: All the money we owe him. Mr. Crist: All the tests we talked ourselves out of along with all the gripes Mr. Zimmerman: All our off notes in music. Miss Freeman: All of our speed tests and our quiet ways in typing class. Mrs. Lynch: All of the entrances we forgot in the play. To the janitor: All of the messes we made. To the Freshmen we will our studious ways. To the Sophomores we will our talents and knowledge in music, athletics, and dramatics, etc. , providing they use it and put it to a good use as we tried to do. To the Juniors we will our leadership ability and our co-operative ways. Class Prophecy In the summer of 1964 the Senior Class of ten years previous met in the new Hildreth High School Auditorium, which was built and dedicated to them as one of the most outstanding classes ever graduated from the Hildreth Public School. As Harold was living the nearest to our meeting place, he arrived thirty minutes early in his Model A Ford with his nine boys. His wife was unable to attend as she couldn't get off work. Harold is having financial troubles because each of his nine boys wear size fourteen shoes now too. John was the second class member to arrive. John has found himself a wife and is now living on the home place. Incidentally he has given up farming with horses and is now busy farming 300 acres of irrigated land with several tractors. Carol Jean came next. She and Virgil are gradually increasing their bank account in the goat raising business. By the way, they are raising kids of their own, so Carol Jean is still practicing her nursing career. Shirley and Ben were there only a few minutes after Carol Jean. Shirley had to close her shop, Face and figure lifted after four sets of twins , for this special occasion, but they will leave early as they left their twelve kids in charge of the juvenile officer of Hastings, Nebraska. Brian, our math brain, came rolling in next. Brian has wormed his way through college into the engineering field. A special railroad track was laid for this occasion. He arrived in his new original Atomic Powered Choo Choo . He informed us that Sharron would be along later, that she was operating the caboose and it was only a half day's run from the caboose to the engine. LaDonna attended Kearney State Teachers College for four years, and is now teaching at the All American Art College in Pennsylvania. She and her husband, both having a liking for horses, started out to this reunion in their brand new carriage and a new team of palamino horses. They ended up taking a train as they couldn't seem to make it through the Pennsylvania Turnpike with their horses. Not enough speed, I guess. Lily Anne arrived on her new red four-wheeled motorcycle with yellow hub caps. As she came to a screeching half, twenty-four patrolmen carrre racing along behind her. Lily Anne always did have a way with the men, didn't she? Everyone was conversing and having a wonderful time when an awful roaring and screeching sound overcame the sounds of the conversation. Everyone ran to the door to find only Larry driving up in his new Dodge convertible. Larry, as you all know, started his career in the field of denistry. Larry practiced on his wife, Rosy, but evidentally she didn't approve of being toothless, so she left him. Now Larry has turned his interest to a more exciting field. He is now in Hollywood running the Dodge Tax Service . Larry feels there is more advantages there. Karen arrived next. As you probably know, she is now a successful home economics teacher. She graduated from KSTC in 1958. She is not married and never will be I guess, the men can't stand her cooking. Karen seems to be en- joying herself though, she is still full of fun and spirit. She said she felt just as young as the day she graduated from dear Ol' H. H. S. By the way, Karen is not teaching in an ordinary school; no, she has a job with the U. S. Government. Cooking for the army, she is stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. She is trying to teach new and better ways of cooking. The government officials at Washington D. C. are trying to figure out a way of getting the boys going back to fighting in- stead of spending all their hours on KP duty. When Beth arrived she drove up in her bright Cadillac convertible with gold plated wheels and a fur lined top. She is living in Austin, Texas and is now mar- ried to an oil tycoon, but he was unable to come because they were drilling six more wells and he had to stay home and take care of them. By the way Beth has two sets of triplets, one of the sets are 8 years old and the others are 6 years of age. All six of them are attending an academy. The first thing Beth said when she came in is Hi, you all . Sounds just like her, doesn't it? By the way, before Beth left she gave us all fifty dollar bills. She said this was the payment for putting up with her those last two years in H. H. S. Dean, being late as usual, was only forty minutes late. Dean is a very busy man nowadays; he doesn't have time for marriage. He is practicing law and is in the undertaking business on the side. His excuse for being late this time was a logical reason as he just couldn't walk out of the courtroom, and following the trial he had another body to take care of. Dean is awfully concerned in his work as we heard nothing but the prices of his line of caskets that were shown in the wholesale catalog that he carried with him the full day. After spending an enjoyable and unforgettable day, we decided to meet again in 1974 at the same place. After making farewells and saying good-bye to every- one, the crowd broke away with memories never to be forgotten. 18 Juniors Denny Reil Val Jean Quadhamer Jerry Johnson Leola Frerichs Sharron Whipple Donald Kruse Maxine Casper Junior Class (coni.) To complete our seventeen goals, it is required that we complete two service projects. These consisted of sending cookies to the Veterans' Hospital in Grand Island and sending clothing and other useful articles to an Indian Reservation located in the western part of Nebraska; as an extra project we collected butternut strips and these went as gifts to the Children's Home in Holdrege. The Y-Teens attended fall conference in Holdrege this year. Karen Caspers was area re corder for this conference. They also attended a tea which was given by the YWCA Council mothers. At Christmas time we went caroling and then came back to the schoolhouse for our annual Christmas Party. Each year a mystic candle is presented to the most outstanding Senior girl. Karen Caspers was voted to accept this honor. In February we held our Father-Daughter Banquet, honoring all fathers of the girls in Y-Teens. 40 Y Teen Cabinet Karen Caspers...... Janet Johnson...... Beth Schroder did a wonderful job of being toastmistress at the banquet. Following the banquet, a coronation of the Activity King and Queen was held in gymnasium. Larry Schwartz was crowned the Activity King and Karen Caspers was crowned the Activity Queen. The royal party's attendants were Beth Schroder, Maxine Casper, Janet Johnson, Dean Jelden, Brian Halbert, and Larry Casper. A dance for all high school students was held in the gym following the coronation. Along with the success already obtained we wish you luck in making the future Activity Banquets something always to be remembered.
