This is why we will begin with the year 1949 when we were Freshmen with Fifteen in our class. The members of this proud class were Bill Headley, Verleen Hollingshead, Mary Jane Hansen, and Lloyd Putman all of Hildreth; also Gerald Loschen, Gerald Westerbuhr, Dale Bunger, Denzel Frerichs, Arlene Schmidt, and Carol Mae Bunger from school dis- tricts surrounding Hildreth. Lawrence Fruhling hailed from way down yonder near Orleans, Nebraska, and from the good old Macon Prairie were Eunice Adam, Caroline Adam, Richard Rohnke, and Vern Johnson. During the Freshman year Verleen left our class and Vern Johnson did not attend school any longer when we were Sophomores. The urge to farm that good old black soil seized him. Gerald Loschen dropped out of our class when he was a Sophomore. At the second semester of the Junior year Bill Headley found better opportunities in the Navy. Lawrence Lippstreu spied the Hildreth High School when he was a Junior and decided he would give it a try. He made up for all the losses we had. That made our Junior Class in 1950-51 a class of twelve members. This year we came back as Seniors and have not regretted that we continued to go to school here. Many happy hours along with a few trying ones were found here but that is what makes life interesting. We have made many friends and when we turn back the pages of time Hildreth will be a high spot;!! 11 Class Will We the Seniors of 1951-52 will our following riches to the underclassmen: I, Gerald Westerbuhr, will my ability to tease girls to Leon Johnson. I, Richard Rohnke, will my fine memory to Sharon Glenn. I, Lawrence Lippstreu, will my box of toothpicks to Brian Halbert and my nickname, Whimp, to Wayne Schurman. I, Denzel Frerichs, will my manly physique to Leland Jelden and the hair on my chest to Dean Jelden. I, Carol Mae Bunger, will my ability to keep quiet to Rosalie Keiser. I, Arlene Schmidt, will my one and only baby tootn to Marjorie Anderson. I, Lloyd Putman, will my ability to drive Miss Freeman's Model A Ford to Randall Dallman. I, Lawrence Fruhling, will my guitar playing ability to Marvin Hinrichs in hopes that he will not sit beneath a windowsill containing flower pots while serenading the girls. I, Caroline Adam, will all the names given to me during high school to any one who will live up to them as I didn't. I, Dale Bunger, will my beard to Larry Schwartz. I, Mary Jane Hansen, will my ability to write love letters to Hazel Steinkruger providing she catches a man. I, Eunice Adam, will the peculiar spot on my arm to Mary Lou Duis providing she can tell everybody what it is when asked. 12 Class Prophecy Ten years have elapsed since the Senior Class of 1«52 in Hildreth High School graduated. I, Lawrence Lippstreu, am a traveling salesman. During my tour of the United States selling life insurance I have en- countered all my fellow classmates. As I was traveling through the West I came across a beautiful ranch and thought that the owner of it would surely want some insurance. I was very surprised when I stood face to face with the owner, Denzel Frerichs. As I recall, he always did want to own a big ranch. Wmle I was traveling through Nebraska I stopped in Hildreth. 1 was curious about what my former classmates were doing so I inquired about them. I was told that Gerald was the pastor of Emmanuel’s Lutheran Cnurch which is south of Hildreth, so I decided to attend his Sunday morning service. At first I was only interested in Gerald's success as a minister. Later, I looked around and I saw Lamoine and Eunice sitting with three small children. I had always thought they would marry. After the service I had a nice chat with her. She informed me that Mary Jane was happily married and living on a small farm near Minden. Both Richard and Dale were engaged in the prominent occupation of farming. So after visiting these classmates I journeyed on trying to sell more insurance. By the way I made some profitable sales in the Hildreth vicinity. My occupation now took me to a small town near Lincoln. Class Prophecy con’t. As I was driving through the streets I saw Reverend L. D. Fruhlmg, Pastor, written on a sign in front of a beautiful Lutheran Church. Since I had important business that had to be attended to immediately in Omaha I didn't have time to stop and visit him. On my way to Omaha I was following a car whose driver I thought I recognized. I blew my horn quite repeatedly because I thought it was Caroline and I wanted her to stop. She immediately rec- ognized me, stopped very suddenly and before I could stop we had a collision. I had a broken leg and a bruised jaw and was sent to an Omaha Hospital. I guess I should have practiced what I taught and also bought a life insurance policy. Guess what? Arlene Schmidt happened to be a registered nurse there so I received extra special care. Caroline being in show business, was in Omaha several days where they were presenting a play. She visited me every day while I was there. Several months later I had covered the territory up to Pennsylvania. When I was m Pittsburg I went past one of the big mines and I noticed a large group of people picketing. Among them was Lloyd Putman. I talked to him for quite a while and he informed me that they were striking more than working. I then went from there to New York to report to my headquarters. After my work was done I went to a bookstore to get a book to read and intended to spend a peaceful night at home. I opened the book and who do you suppose the author was—Carol Mae Bunger. I guess she has taken to writing books. 14 Freshmen FIRST ROW: SECOND ROW: THIRD ROW: Carol Jean Hansen, Leo la Frerichs, Maxine Casper, Val Jean Quadhamer, Helen Adams, Marva Ann Frltson, Merlyn Rahman. A beginning band was also started for high school students the second semester. A flute was added to the band before the school term was completed. Several concerts were given throughout the year. The first one was combined with the city band. This was the first appearance since ly36. From these performances money was received to purchase partial uniforms. These uniforms consisted of dark navy blue jackets and uniform caps. The pep band played at basketball games again this year. It was divided into two groups so that they could alternate performances. Besides the band as a whole, there were also small groups such as the German Band, Clarinet Quartet, and the Brass Quartet. The German Band played for the Junior Play and the Clarinet Quartet played at the Father-Daughter Banquet. They also played at the concerts and contest. Nine members of the band participated in the Franklin Band Clinic which was held February yth. To make the baqd a more successful band the instructor, Mr. Zimmerman, appointed a committee to help him set up rules for the members to follow. Students of this committee were Rosalie Reiser, Eunice Adam, Leon Johnson, Marjorie Anderson, Leland Jelden, and Dean Jelden. Marjorie was band secretary and Susan Dinnis was band Librarian. Mr. Zimmerman is very interested in band work and will be able to nelp the band progress more.
