He had one 6' 4 boy who is every Coach's dream, Art Whisnant. Art averaged 25 points per game and was the leading scorer in the conference. Jim Wilson and B obby Lind s ay helped Art control the backboards, while Tony Lynn and Vernon Stephens proved to be the defensive stars. Having lost only two non-conference games, the boys won top honors in the conference. The team traveled to Charlotte to play Harding High and there received their fir st defeat. The second was in the Burke C o unty tournament. It was a rough game down to the finish with Glen Alpine coming out on top. This was a tough game for the Royals to lo se because it meant the loss of the tournament title. With six boys graduating this ye ar Coach Ruggles will have a tough season next year. But he will have two starters returning, Vernon Stephens and Bobby Lindsayg also some good pro- spects are coming on to fill the other positions for next year.
