They won their first game 26 to 12 on Homecoming against Gettysburg. The Pirates had 8 games scheduled, h of which were conference, and finished fourth in conference with 2, 2 record. In season play they won 3, lost U, and had 1 game canceled because of light failure. The B football squad had a more favorable season winning 3 games and losing 1. In the annual Highmore Invitational Tournament, they lost a heart-breaking championship game to Wolsey - 51-50, receiving the runner-up trophy. In conference play, the Pirates tied for fourth place. At the District tournament the Pirates played their final game losing to Wolsey - 5b-50 in the semi-finals. A” Schedule We in Ft. Springs 30 Track Boys who qualified for State Track Meet. H. Huber, M. Smith, K. Mehrer, J. Palon, and C. Volek The Pirate track squad had a very good season this year. They finished 5th in the conference track meet, winning a total of 16 medals and the mile relay trophy for first place in that event. At the Regional track meet, the Pirates finished lith, and won 16 medals. Five squad members qualified for competition in the state meet, they were: Marvin Smith, in high hurdles and mile relay; Cliff Volek, in low hurdles and mile relay; Jim Palon, Herman Huber, in mile relay; and Kenny Mehrer, in mile run. S.'s music department has again had a very successful year under the direction of Mr. William Mueller, who took the helm January 1. After being without a direction for two months everyone cooperated eagerly to make up for lost time. The 50 piece band appeared on many occasions both marching and in concerts. Small groups from the band did very well at the contest. Many of them have also entertained for various organizations. The presiding officers of the band for the past year have been: Doris Harter, president; Ruth Hardesty, vice-president and lone O'Brien, secretary. The grade school music department was supervised by some of the high school students under the direction of Mr. Mueller. The solos and small en- sembles receiving Superior ratings the first day were: Myma Ferris, contralto; Doris Harter, mezzo sop- rano and baritone saxo- phone; Rth Hardesty, bar- itone horn and the baritone duet (Ruth Hardesty and Myra Underhill). Ten 2nc place, five 3rd place,and three Uth place ratings were also recieved. Those appearing in the solo and ensemble events spent the night in Aberdeen and were Joined the fol- lowing day by the rest of the music contestants to perform in band, mixed chorus, and Girls Glee Club. Librarians Junior Senior Prom “Candgland” On May 5, in the Memorial Auditorium, the Seniors were the Juniors' guests t the annual Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet. Through a red and white arch the Candyland dining room was viewed. After the delicious banquet, the guests were taken on a trip through Candyland” on the Candy Express and met these various characters: The Chief Engineer, The Chocalate Soldier, Hiss Fudge, Miss Taffy, The Divinity Duet, The Shop Keeper, The Lollypop Trio, The Nut Cracker, The Cracker Jack Kid, and Miss Tootsie Roll. At the end of the Journey they found themselves entering a Candyland Castle and dancing to the music of Chas. Boldt and his orchestra ---- the Candyland voyage never to be forgotten.
