Working to keep the shelves stocked with enough books to support our curriculum were Miss Carol Nightingale and Mrs. Audrey Bickford. They assisted the students and teachers in locating materials and using the library facilities. In the resource room Mrs. Pat Englund provided the extra attention for students who were falling behind in their studies and needed special help. Another special program was handled by Mrs. Janelle McGee, who conducted a full time special ed. program for a limited number of students. TW,is t,. ....L . gikt 5:a,..,,,. sm ff W ' wg 5 ' W- .. Secretaries lend a helping hand Working behind the scenes at Highline was a group of excellent secretaries. ln the main office, Mrs. Dena Pounds and Mrs. Sandi Williams kept and updated all records and files and answered innumerable phone calls. In addition to these responsibilities, Mrs. Will- iams acted as bookkeeper and registration secretary. It was her job to see that all students were registered in the proper classes. Mrs. Lillian Mickelson kept busy in the attendance of- fice keeping track of all the students. Her responsibili- ties as attendance secretary included secretarial work for vice-principal Mr. Tom Sawyer. Each Monday the school nurse, Mrs. Norma Jensen, came to Highline. Before the year was over, she saw to it that each student had hearing and eye tests. The dedicated work of the school secretaries helped to make this a fine yar. ws Cooks and Custodians keep pirate ship afloat Most likely not one of the five to six hundred students who buy school lunches every day knows of the work that goes into each day's meal. The head cook, Ruth Feil, starts each day at 5:30 a.m., preparing the menu for the day. The rest of the staff, Eleanor Thompson, Phyllis Dettler, Sally Rendon, Myrtle West, Mary Ellis, and Eunice Boardman, arrive at approximately 8 a.m. The staff of cooks prepares meals not only for Highline High School, but also for Sunnydale and Normandy Park elementary schools. Highline is fortunate to have such excellent cooks. When the school bell rang at 1:50 every day, it meant the end of another day of work for students, but for our custodians, the work had just begun. With the re- duced custodial staff this year, there was extra work for everyone. The staff included Fred Daiberl, head custodian, Richard Rifely, Helen Walker, Dan Colgan, Bob Medley, Fred Smith, Mike Blaine, and Al Brownlow. This year, as every year, our custodians played an im- portant part in the school by keeping it clean and healthy. TOP: Fred Daiberl, CENTER: Eunice Boardman, Ruth Fell, Mary Ellis.
