Probing our world's secrets An appreciation of life with the understanding of man's relationship to his surroundings would best describe one goal of the science program. Classes included beginning biol0gy, advanced biology, botany, chemistry, and physics. In the biology classes study included the basic under- standing of life functions through the use of microscopes and dissection. Advanced biology began with the study of the human body and the dissection of fetal pigs. Molecular structure, chemical behavior, and familiarity with terms used by chemists were just a few of the sub- jects chemistry students had to cope with. Physics included a study of sound waves, mathematical formulas, and atomic structure. The science program deals with a growing field which many Highline students are destined to enter. Math and Business Ed: theory and practice When a student leaves high school, he finds that math- ematics is an important part of life. The math program at Highline, headed by Mr. l.C. Bonney, is designed to pre- pare students for the mathematical problems they will no doubt encounter in their everyday lives. Any student can find a class to suit his mathematical needs. Courses range from the basic, such as Pre-algebra, to the more difficult, such as Math Analysis and Calculus. Although, in most cases, math is not a required subject at Highline, you will find many students who find this va- riety of classes a challenging and rewarding experience. Classes with emphasis on secretarial skills like typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, recordkeeping, and account- ing are taught by the Business Education teachers, Mr. David Craig, Mr. Elmer Click, Mrs. justine Richards, Miss Roxanne Emerson, and Mr. Bill Willis. Mr. Willis, along with Miss Emerson, teaches Business law. In addition, Mr. Willis teaches DECA, a two-hour work day study program concerning itself with whole- saling and marketing practices and Diversified Gccupa- tions where students work at varied jobs besides office and sales jobs. Business Machines, taught by Mrs. Justine Richards, and Office Occupations, taught by Mr. Craig, were aimed at students who have or want jobs in offices. K' b L.. ,f Ei. Mr. l.C.
