This year's counselors were Mr. Ken Crossman, senior counselor, Mr. Bert Williams, junior counselor, and Mrs. Mary Wining, sophomore counselor. Included also was Mrs. Patty Burgess as career counselor. The counselors worked from a framework of three major goals. First, they saw that students registered in the proper types and right number of classes. Second, coun- selors dealt with personal problems encountered by students and teachers. Perhaps the most important goal was helping students plan for the future by finding their interests and channeling these interests into possible careers. Hopefully, in the years to come, students will continue to recognize the counseling department as a valuable asset to the school. Big three enjoy third busy year I consider my role as high school principal to be one of many different responsibilities. Here at Highline this is especially true. It is a position of many responsibilities but also of many rewards. My participation in curriculum, staff, and program de- velopment is extremely important and the opportunities that I have for associating with students, parents, and faculty makes each day a rewarding experience. I had a college professor who made this statement: A principal is a man of many hats! I personally find these hats very comfortable and pleasant to wear. Ken Teller, Principal Highline High School is a comprehensive school whose standards are recognized as being among the highest in the state of Washington. As your vice-principal, and in concert with Mr. Teller, I enjoy working with both stu- dents and faculty in maintaining our present high level of achievement. It is important to me that our students receive the maximum program that we can provide. It is my responsi- bility to work with Mr. Teller, Mr. Reimer, the faculty, students, and parents in such a way that the maximum benefits that may be gained are readily accessible to the total student population. David Alfred, Vice-principal During the performance of my duties as Assistant to the Principal, I see the professionalism, dedication, and involvement of the Highline staff. I see the willingness and enthusiasm of both students and faculty in the plan- ning and accepting of responsibility. This willingness to do their best and accept responsibil- ity for their academic, extracurricular, and social activities is what education is all about. Roger Reimer, Assistant to the Principal GLM, I, fyeafw

Special People: extensive duties Updating all the records and files, the secretaries of Highline High keep very busy. They do much more than greet everyone with a smile and answer phones. ln the main office Mrs. Dena Pounds and cashier Mrs. Beverly Broughton kept the records and money in order. The attendance office was managed by Mrs. Lillian Mickelson, who was constantly at battle with the never- ending chore of keeping the attendance records up- to-date. Mrs. Drake, in the registration office, welcomed stu- dents and registered them in the proper classes. In order to keep the medical records caught up, High- Mrs. Phyllis Drake Mrs. Lillian ,Mickelson Mrs. Dena Pounds Mrs. Barbara Russell Kr ,ff W '-.JW line's school nurse, Mrs. Barbara Russell, came in each Wednesday and Friday. Another of Mrs. Russell's tasks was to perform hearing and vision tests for students each year. g A , L! .. .721 : n We .w M MUNM 7' l
