Train for Historia, M, 4 ,gif buh- HISTORY INSTRUCTORS 0 Mr. Lemon, Mr. Trowbridge, Mr. Hallgrimson, Mr. Hem- stad Mr Shawl, Miss Lomax, and Mr. Lemlnel. IN A JOURNEY through life we encounter an infinite number of situations of varying degrees covering the length and breadth of human relations. Each is de- termined by countless people and places combining in their own ingenious fash- ion to make it in some way different from each and every event throughout man's history. Yet we may say that many incidents are only as individual as the fleeting second in which they occur, and that the same story may be enacted time and again with a different cast. XVe know that mankind has learned many similar lessons repeatedly and with ever-increasing cost. Therein lies the importance of history. Thus the history instructor's work is vital in that it aids man's moral and social development that he may approach the pace of his swiftly advancing scien- tific progress. The Pirates' Log staff of 1959 dedicates this book to the history instructors of Highline. Highest tribute is paid to Mr. Lemon, Mr. Trowbridge, Mr. Hallgrim- son, Mr. Hemstad, Mr. Shawl, Miss Lomax, and Mr. Lemmel, who have en- riched the lives of many pupils by bringing the world and its understanding di- rectly into the classroom.

Bon Voyage N-.... Left: Leonard F. Johnson, principalg Lowell Vliggins, vice-principal. Aboyc: lim McBride, student body president, confers with Mr. johnson and Mr. XViggins. N THIS AGE of jet and space, the theme of 1959's annual is most appropriate. To go around the world has always been the dream of many, but, heretofore, it was possible for only a few. Now it can be a reality for almost anyone. The fact that a jet-propelled plane can carry you to any part of the world in only a few hours makes it imperative that each of you should come to know some- thing of the world in which you live. Through literature, science, history, and languages, each of your one hundred and eighty days is important to you as an individual. Moreover, in addition to this development there is an increasing need of internationalism for the world citizen of today. You must be aware that your opinions on all subjects, no matter how insignificant, will have more far-reaching effects than ever before. Thus it is your responsibility to gain the utmost from your educational opportunities that you may attain a greater knowledge of your rapidly expanding environment. LEONARD F. j0HNsoN, principal.
