CLASS OFFICERS. The Sophomore Home Front Vv'e certainly miss you here at Highline. Even though you did get into a lot of Dear Bill, trouble, everyone thought you were swell. You probably don't remember us because we were only Babes when you graduated, but how we have changed, for now we're mighty sophomores! No longer are we the underpups, no longer do we shy away when a senior passes. NVe're almost upperclassmen! We certainly got a big kick out of electing our class ofhcers this year. jack Magner, a prominent gridman, was unanimously elected to lead this outstanding class. The offices of vieefpresident and SCCret21fy were held by two of the most popular sophof more girls, Arlene and Frances Burch. Not all the credit for our exceptional class is due the students, however, for we were also fortunate in having such capable advisers. You probably had many of the same teachers trying to make you come to homeroom as we have now. Remember the swell football team Highline had when you were here? Well, thanks to many sophomores, this year's team was also good. Two of our boys, Jack Magner and Bob McCann, received major awards. Besides football, the sophomore boys participated in basketball, track, and tennis. Not only the boys enjoyed sports, for many athleticfminded girls turned out for tumbling, tennis, basketball, and volleyball in H.G.A.A. Here at school we've had several bond drives and with each purchase we want you to know that we're wishing all the Highline boys in service the best of luck. Say, Bill, do you recall the Drama Shoppe play you were in? Well, this year the club was as active as it was then. Among the members, there were many sophomores, the must outstanding being Doris Lande, who starred as Mama in the play, Papa is All. In the field of music our class was proud of its many members who participated in orchestra, band, and boys' and girls' glee clubs. You know, Bill, there's something else we want to tell you. Now, don't think we're boasting, but of the seventyffive members of the Torch Society, twenty were sophomores. What do you think of that? In looking back at the past school year, our class is proud of its many aceomplishf ments and we eagerly look forward to next year when we'll be juniors and upper' elassmen! VVell, thats it, the history of one of Highlines most outstanding classes, the sophomores of '44, Vv'e hope this letter finds you in good health and spirit, and our entire class joins us in wishing you a safe and early return. Best of luck, Dick .wo RUTH. Jack Magner, president, France Burch, secretary-treasurer, Arlene Burch, vicefpresidentg Mr. Simp son, bead adviser-SOPHOMORE
