Due to the combined efforts of the art, music, speech, and physical education departments under the supervision of Roy M. Parsons, vocal music director, the Silver Anniversary of our pageant was greatly enjoyed by everyone who partici- pated and those who were fortunate enough to see it. This year marked a change in the ordinary presentation differing from other years in the fact that instead of living tableaux, the story of the Nativity and the Old Fashioned Christmas was presented by a series of very colorful stained glass windows made by students under the direction of the art department. A fast-step- ping, high spirited quintet won the Mayor's Trophy by downing the Hamtramck five, 43-40 on the hardwoods of Olympia. Wayne Lawries' field goal sent the Bears ahead while Glen Gartman clinched the victory with a foul shot. When the Bears traveled to Grosse Pointe they lost a heartbreaker in the final seconds, 46-47, and repeated the disappointment on Wyandotte's floor to the tune of 39-34. When the league leading Wyandotte quintet ventured to Highland Park, however, they found quite a surprise await- ing them and were lucky to eke out a thrilling 40-41 victory. l 96 Qeeefwea Graduation time in January had seen guards George Adams and Chuck Pipp pass into the files of Parker alumni, but still holding down the center slot for the Parker five were Glenn Gartman and Don Charpentier, while Don Marentette, Bob Taylor, Bob Smart, and Louis Rossi played the guard positions. A formidable quartet on the forward positions were Wayne Lawrie, Albert Ozias, Chuck Krisfalusi, and Phil Wooldridge. As the result of a serious shoulder injury suffered during football season, Dick Avakian, a var- sity cager, saw very little action in the year's hoopster activities. 97 U f no Front Row fseatedj: Bob Clemens, Bob Montgomery, john Gir- ven, Ray Marchewitz, Peter O'Rourke, Bob Furney, Fred Regis- ter, john Mercer, Bud Forrest, Dick VanC1eve, Durwood Allen, Steve Pavkovic. fStandingj: Dick Colyer, Tim Mallory, Ron Johnson, Bill Sex- ton, Lee Shay, Kyle Otterbein, Lyle Miller, Mike Doran, Bob Jiggens. What a meet! These words were heard many times during the course of the Natator's 48-49 season. For, while compiling an only fairly successful .400 average, the Bears provided thrill- ing competition for their B. C. L. rivals. A 61-23 victory for the tankers provided the starter, and was followed by three negative markers against two victories. The second round of the season saw the swimmers hold mighty Grosse Pointe to a tie while dropping three and copping one. The Natators look ahead to next year with visions of victory, for the many returning varsity men will undoubtedly strengthen their bid for success.
