O. Detrick the Polar Bear basketball team terminated the '26 season with sixteen victories and but four ,ff defeats. Opening the season's hostilities with an easy victory over Sagi- naw Eastern, Highland Park proved it had a team to be proud of. Flint and the alumni were next trounced. The Polar Bears received their first setback in an overtime game at the hands of Western, in one of the most spectacular lights ever witnessed on the local Hoot. Western came from behind to tie the score and won the game from the foul line during the extra period, closing with a 24 to 23 score, Smarting under the defeat of the week before, the arctic clan removed Eastern from the title race. 16 to 10. Captain Schaeffer's men the following week were completely overridden by Southeastern, the state champs, 28 to 14. Then the Highland Park boys broke through with a string of nine consecutive victories which carried them on a wave of triumph to a tie for second place in the City League. In the tournament games, played at the Light Armory, Highland Park drew Southeastern for its first opponent. The Jungleers ran through a weakened Blue and White team in the third quarter. winning 38-18. Detrick's bas- keteers took revenge on Western, defeating them in the last game of the Armory series. Muskegon. Highland Park's opponent in the Class A state tournament at Ann Arbor, after trailing for three periods, spurted with a series of long shots and held a one-point advantage over the inner-city lads as the final whistle blew, the score being 25-24.
