Two intermediate records were broken by Highland Park boys in the city meet: Alec Szkola set the time for the 100-yard back stroke at 34.8 and for the 40-yard free style at 27 flat. The team as a whole lived up to Coach Withey's expectations. Most of the boys will graduate to the varsity team next year. Practice will continue until late this spring and will start early again in the fall. SCHEDULE Dec. 17-Jefferson Dec. 22-Balch Mar. 10-Hamtramck Mar. I6-Jefferson Total. VARSITY SWIMMING H. P. Opp. 29 28 U38 8 . 50 11 . 36 20 .1535 The varsity swimming team has just completed one of the most successful seasons in the history of swimming at this school. Finishing second to the Colts of Northwestern in the state meet at Lansing and winning 6 out of 7 dual meets is the record of Coach Withey's proteges. The Polar Bear completely submerged Cass, Western. and Southwestern re- spectively, lost to Ann Arbor in the next tilt. in a freak pool, and won the next three meets in succession, closing the season with a defeat by Northwestern. Captain Jimmy Murphy was rated as being the best diver in the state, Jimmy Boylan, also of the Highland Park natators. ranking second. Prospects for next year are far from good. since the team will be handicapped by the graduation of ten veterans, both relay teams and every free style of any real ability being lost to the squad.
