FACULTY GIRLS' GYM DEPARTMENT Miss till, deportment chairman, Miss Grabin, Miss Hayes, Miss Bond, Miss Hulbert, Miss Ponozzo, Miss Haddy, NOT PICTURED: Miss Gamble, Miss Tank. The physical education department heartily endorses the President's physical fitness program. In four years of school, students work out a total of almost 480 hours in such pur- suits as basketball, volleyball, swimming, trampoline, gym- nastics, and dance. Like the gym department, the music department is inter- ested in the development of basic skills, timing, and co- ordination. The two music teachers direct several choruses, an orchestra, and two bands. To our two art teachers, art is both a vocation and an avocation. One is an expert potter, and the other an expert painter. In addition to instruction in these areas, the de- partment offers courses ranging from art appreciation, to commercial art, to design. MUSIC DEPARTMENT What'j the score?'' Mr. Finch, department chairman, asks Mr. Haberlond, seated. ART DEPARTMENT The still life looked good enough to cat so Mrs. Esser- man, department chairman, and Mr. Prokos had a foost. HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT STANDING: Miss Wagner, SEATED: Miss Cairncross, deportment chairman. Miss Winkelman. Unlike most home economic courses that just offer sewing and cooking, our department furnishes interior design, home nursing, home management, as well as a complete course in child care where students actually take care of nursery school children. BUSINESS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT STANDING: Miss Wall, Mr. Spears, Mr. Voss, Mr. Mihura, deportment chairman. SEATED: Mrs. Mount, Mrs. Freehling. Today there is more of a demand for business education than ever before. Meeting this demand, the department has expanded its program to offer courses in office machines, typing, short- hand, bookkeeping and secretarial practice. The language department offers an unusual number of languages — French, German, Italian, Latin, and Spanish. Different methods used to teach them have placed equal stress on the spoken language, grammar, and vocabulary. Students in social studies classes emerge well aware of the presence of the post. They learn the importance of current events by seeing how today's problems originated. 17
