For the first time in many years the varsity nine had enough pitching depth to be a winning team. This year’s mound staff consisted of Roger Lunardi, Charles Root. Dick Kushen, R. Foreman, and Mike Morris. Other regulars in the lineup are Fred Krase, Denny Herrmann, Steve Shankman, and Terry Trcgcr. The first games showed a terrific improvement over last year. Tile sophomores seemed to be taking up where they left off last year. After winning most of their games as freshmen, they dropped only one early season contest this year. The Racket Squad Although the stificst competition was yet to come, both tennis teams looked good early in the season. The varsity was almost the same team as last year, only the players had another season behind them. Dick Schnadig, I.in Simon and Pete Fcchhcimcr were slated to play singles while there was likely to be some shifting of the doubles pairs. Freshman George O’C-onnell could be all the team needed to beat traditional champs New Trier and Oak Park. The turnout for the frosh-soph squad was the largest ever, and also one of the best. Sophs John Newmann and Harry Oppenheimer wen able to help out on the varsity when needed. Lin Simon. Peter Fcchhcim- cr, and Fred Glazer of the varsity net squad certainly aren't practicing assiduously here! Page 30
