When Those Little Giants Fall In Line Coach I)on Burton's varsity failed to win a league contest; however, they won their only non-league game from Fenger and in league competition they tied Niles. 'Hie Little Giants were led by Bill ('ora, one of the league’s best fullbacks, and signal caller Hugh Seyfarth. Halftrack Dave Rudolph, hampered by a knee injury, looked especially good in the few games he played. John Gugliclmi, Rich Giangiorgi, Mike Reeb and Bill Harris were standouts in the Parker line. At the beginning of the season, the best of the freshmen were brought up to aid Coach Hammerberg’s sophomore squad. Midway in the season it was decided that, in consideration of future football, it would lx better to let these freshmen play with the frosh squad. After the freshmen went back to their team, the sophomores forfeited their remaining games so that juniors might play sophomore ball to gain experience. For this reason the sophomores are not pictured. (k ach Richard Baldrini’s freshman squad was one of the best in recent years. They were especially successful after receiving the players from the sophomore squad. Halfback Jack Jashclski and quarterback Bob Ltickman were among the frosh standouts. Page 16

The contest consists of a two-mile run (one and one-half miles for frosh-soph) over an irregular course. This year, all home meets were held at Exmoor Countrs Club. Despite their unimpressive record, the harriers steadily improved during the season. Showing special promise for the future was John Farr, a sophomore, who placed third in his division at the Suburban league meet. The varsity, suffered from an undersized squad. Nevertheless, I.anc Kendig and John Schiffer scored consistently in the meets. Coach Ault looks for Highland Park to be a major power in cross country in coming years.
