This is Scottie, your mascot, recording the events that have passed by you during the school year, 1954-55. This has been an unforgettable year for all of us at Highland Park. We will always remember our money- minded senior class . . . the football games when we beat our arch rival Topeka High and undefeated Shawnee Mission . . . and the spirit of our basketball team al- though it was a losing season . . . And, something new has been added this year, the Highlander Queen. We hope in years to come, she will become a tradition like Homecoming Queen. Here is a memory book to help you recall those wonderful high school days . . . the staff and I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy presenting it to you. This is the mot- to that members of the Student Council chose as the motto of the school. The council also established a committee to welcome all new students and guests to the school. Other activities of this elected body were to arrange for assemblies, sponsor school elec- tions, some varsities, the Blue and Silver Formal, and to set up the yearly calendar. Membership of the council consists of nine Ex- ecutive Board members and representatives from each homeroom, elected each fall. The purpose of the organization is to further the best interests of school activities, to promote good citizenship, to ad- vise the administration as to the wishes of the stu- dent body, to better relations between students and faculty, and to charter new clubs. Cfftgzi .S7bLl0l00l f .idmd Loyal supporters for Highland Park teams meet during the break to observe the cheerleaders' skit. The girls in the green skirts, red sweaters, and cocked Scotch hats with little red feathers, are mem- bers of the Highland Park Pep Club. The nearly 125 girls of the club are organized to promote good sportsmanship, support all teams in athletic activities, and to instill pep and spirit into all activities of Highland Park High School. The Scotch Lassie Pep Club was organized in 1937, with a membership of ten. The original uniform was the same as the present one, except the style of the sweater was slipover instead of the coatastyle now worn by the Senior Pep Club. The junior Pep Club is for first-year members. They wear white long- sleeved blouses until their second year, when they earn their red sweaters. Pep Club members sit in a special section at all games this year, the junior members formed a white H and were surrounded by senior members in their red sweaters. Judie Wolverton was president of the Pep Club this year, and Miss Donna Gies and Miss Pat Wil- kinson are the sponsors. M4 52 .F cr if 47 ,. 5.
