Q .gm in R President Dale Dnxon Secretary Barbara Kramer Treasurer Joan Urbanek and Vrce presudent Dale Jensen chat during the noon hour IILHSS lll l95ll First graders in Hughland Park back in 1938 were a peppy lrttle group Curious about their new surround ings and eager to make friends they enjoyed that frrst year for it marked the beginning of wonderful new ex periences Life nn the grades proceeded inthe usual vein with various incidents which added spnce to the daily rou tune ln the sixth grade amorous .lim Chnlson grabbed Marilyn Barkes and kissed her shy Marilyn fled to the cloakroom And all this started a terrible feud with the boys defending Jim and vowing that he had been withurt has rights The group grew up in the eighth grade and turned to rowdy means of entertaining themselves. Emmett Barraclough captained an army of fifteen boys who reveled in a half-hour fight with chalk and eraser ammunition when they were supposed to help the teachers by sorting magazines The conflict ended when Commander in chief Wetlaufer opened the door and ordered them to cease frrrng and to clear the battle fue d Lyman Boursaw was one of many who explored the wonders of chewing tobacco He was the unlucky one however when Mr Stone sent him to the board to work a problem and Lyman in desperatron gulped down the quid' In l946 this group the largest in the school s history entered high school Another freshman that year was Prrn Walter Hines At a class party that wrn ter the first casualty of the year occurred when Harold Hutchinson fell and fractured his knee The accident and the attempts of upperclassmen to crash the gates almost took the starch out of everyone At a sophomore class party at the Bobby Sox club highlight of the program was a can can dance present ed by several of the class beauties Again the big boys tried unsuccessfully to join the party a financial success and enabled them to entertain the sensors at an evennng nn the Sultan s Harem At a six o clock breakfast that spring Miss Hulda Hurtgen be came a candidate for the Congressional Medal of Honor she braved the waters of Lake Shawnee in a row boat with Mary Frances Hutton at the helm' As seniors the students strove to carry important roles in school activities and at the same time to have a final fling Having enjoyed a Christmas formal and a never to be forgotten class picnic members of the Class of l95O leave the halls of Highland determrned to find their right places in a world that they have learned to appreciate COMPLIMENTS OF JACK FROST MOTOR CO II ll F' . , l , . 8 ' F 1,1 - - 11 11 ' I .
