Highland Park's cagers drove to a quick start on the basketball courts by winning their first five games. The initial downfall came at the hands of Atchison in the finals of an invitational tournament held there during the Christmas holidays. Following their first upset, the Scotties struck a see-saw position with wins and losses balancing perfectly, Largest scores run up by the Scotchmen were in games on the home floor when they trounced the Haskell Indians 61-47 and the Bonner Springs ball club 61-49, On the other hand, they chalked up the lowest number of points in the final contest of the season when they lost to Hayden 39-22. Hayden batted l,OOO against the Scots by de- feating them three times in three attempts. High- land had easy sledding when the home quintet met Seaman, Washburn, and Haskell. Entering the Regional tournament at Wamego, the Scotties gave their backers a thrill, Advancing to the semi-finals with a win over Council Grove, the Scots pulled an upset by defeating Wamego 48-29 after the Red Raiders had defeated them twice before. ln the finals Hayden proved too strong, and the Scots ended the season with second place trophy in the regionals. Farrel Tolbert captained the squad for the year with Dale Dixon and Frenchy Jones serving as co- captains for the final Hayden game.
