School 's ouf for summer Without school to occupy the time of students, work seemed to be a popular solution to those endless, hot summer days. One of the most interesting jobs was held by Margaret White. She was an apprentice at a local radio station. Chris Busbee helped coach boys at a football camp and Ellen Luce and Debby Sharp opened a catering serv- ice. Several people chose travel as the answer to the heatwave that hit Texas. Kathy Kessler and Carrie Freeman wandered around Europe while Marga- ret Williams, Cathy Cheatum, and Meg Wilson traveled through the Orient with the Highland Park Presbyterian Church Choir. Shelley Branch and Paul Griffin traveled to Switzerland and Israel. The bright sunshine of Hawaii caught the eye of Lee Touchstone and Melissa Stuart. Kristin Wiley, Blair Gibbs, and Fran- cis Blackwell were among the girls who went to camp. Bonnie O'Flourke taught riding and riflery to girls during her stay at Kamp Kickapoo. David Fuller and Jim Burns spent two weeks camping in the New Mexico mountains. For those who opted for summer school, Andover was the cry. Jona- than Ladd, Alice Toole and Mary Leslie Clements were a few of the scholarly students who went east. For those who stayed in Dallas, mowing lawns and life guarding were popular ways of combining fun with work. Doug Stuart and Grayson Gill cut grass and trimmed hedges for some big bucks. Anne McConnell and Diane Hoover swam the days away as life guards. Other summer jobs were work- ing at local stores, billing offices, and giving tennis lessons to kids. As always some students chose to relax and just play. Summer also provided the perfect opportunity for seniors to visit pro- spective colleges and decide on future plans for the fall. 14 v Summer --.zv- Million dollar answers: John Marks conquers Al Lucky Duck: Carolyn Floyd spendsa leisurely after Hammack's questions at the Hi-Lite picnic. noon feeding the fowl. ii
