AFS Committee Sells Valentine Carnations Australia and Brazil, in alphabetical order, offered two additions to Highland Park's Senior class through the American Field Service. Julie Spehr, AFS student from Mel- bourne, Australia, lived with senior Mollie Carter. She was a member of High- landaires. Round Table. Student Council, and an active participant in extempora- neous speaking and debate in school tour- naments. Julie's favorite story to tell naive Americans was that every Australian household has a kangaroo. AFS student from Brazil, Lindolfo Sales. became quickly accustomed to America while living with Philip Jones. He remarked that what he liked best about America was the music and the girls. Lindolfo enioyed riding bikes and playing his favorite sport, soccer. He participated in the Spanish Club, Round Table, and Student Council. H.P. senior Jane Garrett also took part in' the AFS l97I summer program. After spending ten weeks in Guayaquil, Ecuador. she commented that although life was very different, she would like to return sometime if possible. Funds from the AFS talent show in Octo- ber and from the selling of bonds helped fi- nance AFS students for next year. Three HP students hoped to participate in the AFS program. Senior Beth Mims was an AFS American Abroad candidate for the year 1972-73. Juniors Amy Smith and Tom Latimer were I972 candidates for the sum- mer abroad program.
